The one fact that about viewer habits that we can get from the
figures, is that DW's overnight ratings seem to almost entirely depend
on which gameshows its scheduled after or against, and not on DW
itself.

It got it's highest overnight figures this season when it followed
immediately after the popular Strictly Come Dancing, inheriting the
audience from that show.

And it gets lower figures when it follows less popular shows like
Total Wipeout and when it's scheduled opposite an important X-Factor
round like "boot camp" or "judges' houses" (even if the clash is only
5 or 10 minutes).

This suggests that DW is not the sort of must-see program that
controls the ratings the way gameshows do.  (Even if people do catch
up with DW later, the fact that they choose to watch X-Factor right
away on broadcast and delay watching DW until some other time, makes
it clear which of the two they think is the more important.)

So, despite its ratings being actually pretty good for a light-hearted
sci-fi show, DW is still punching way below its weight compared to the
competition.
