Is Tom Baker supposed to be in season 7b or the anniversary specials?
Or season 8?

Last I saw he was "helping" run a Scottish estate, but kept getting
himself and everyone else into trouble. ;-)

There was a rumor but nothing more so far. The 50th anniv stuff (from what I'm aware of at least) will not start until season 8, possibly nothing really until November. Very curious to see what they come up with. Knowing Moffat it'll be an opposite version of The Pandorica Opens where all of his villains chip in and buy him a birthday cake.

Even that's just speculation. All that's really known so far about 2013 is
that the remaining 8 episodes of Series 7 will air, and that a documentary
has been commissioned that looks at the creation of Dr Who (written by Mark
Gatiss)

Tom Baker was asked to give a guess appearance later in the older series
but declined. It suggested to me that he have had enough of Doctor Who with
all the arguments with directors etc. However he may have a change of heart
as he has been giving commentaries for some of the Doctor Who stories that
he has acted in.

I liked Tom's relaxed style as the Doctor Who character. One of the few
people who could run with a long scarf and not trip over it (grin).

He declined to appear in The Five Doctors, which he later said was a
mistake he regrets. You're right about his relaxed style, and he
brought the humorous dialogue to life in ways that I doubt any of the
other actors to have played the role could have done. If he does make
an appearance in the 50th anniversary, I hope that said appearance does
his established role justice; otherwise, what a waste.

Little Britain is a waste of everything - money, "film", channel timeslot,
... the show is complete drivel, and unfortunately a "good" example of
the hopeless garbage that passes for British "comedy" shows these days.

Whether Tom Baker appeared in that episode, the script was a huge mess and
contradicted Galifrayan politics as we'd come to understand it from previous
episodes. I don't think it would have mattered.

Another problem with the episode was that there was no reason to re-cast
the First Doctor after Hartnell died, which was a lousy thing to do, a
lousy actor, and lousy dialogue for him.

They should have made it Doctors 2, 3, and 5, as that's who they had for it,
and hired somebody else to write a better script.

Here's something I don't know: Why was there footage from a never completed
episode with Romana II? Whatever became of that episode? I assume that's
not Baker's fault.

Tom Baker was amusing on the revival of Randall and Hopkirk (deceased).
The scripts often weren't.

There was a strike while it was in production. Which was a real shame
because they cheaped out on the rest ofthe season in order to save the
budget for that one.

We talked about this. It's unsubstantiated. All it says is "a dr who insider". Whatever the heck that means. Hasn't been reported at all anywhere else.

I was just reading a recent DWM (from 09) and he says he doesn't regret it all because it was so close to when he left. The fact he's come back for the audios is a great sign though. I wonder would they just have him as a somehow aged doctor? Or maybe just a cameo and not the doctor at all.

That's not a nice way to describe Moffatt's job ... he's very proud of

And why has no one mentioned Big Finish? Getting Tom Baker doing any kind of Doctor Who was a real coup for them. Paul McGann was an achievemnt, but getting Tom? Thats not just the icing on the cake, thats practically a whole patissere!

I was recently spitballing McGuffins with my brother to explain his aging
and came up with a cracker that no doubt has occurred to the Grand Moff.
DT had a human incarnation who could get older.
I thought perhaps when he was "made" you could use wibbly wobbly timey wimey
to say that every other incarnation ALSO got such a person with them.
Then explaining how and why they look old.

Corner. Painted out of ;-)

I'd still quite like an "overuse of the Sonic Screwdriver" joke written in.
Was it PD or CB that had it removed from their run as Who?
Have them come out of their TARDIS with MS waving his screwdriver around and
they can say "Not that thing? It's more trouble than it's worth!"

I'd quite like someone to do this too. MS turns up to a situation and uses
the Psychic paper. Person he's waving it at looks totally unimpressed,
sparks up a cigarette lighter and sets fire to it then looks at him and says
"What's with the blank paper?" as he's from a species it doesn't work on.

It wasn't. The scenes you see in Five Doctors with Tom and Lalla are from
Shada.
It was never finished due to strikes at the BBC.
It has been since rereleased with Tom doing narration over the bits they
never filmed.
They also did an animated version with Paul McGann's Doctor.

Star Wars set limits on the light sabre and Jedi mind tricks years ago and
did it it better. Why the producers of DW haven't learned from this is a
mystery.
