I know - she was killed the first episode when we saw her.
And Moffat thought smugly how clever am I. But what is the end game
for this? One day, Alex Kingston gets sick of the role, and
River simply never encounters the Tardis again?
I suppose when Alex finally says "I won't do another season",
then Moffat will have to flesh out the script for the first time
that River lays eyes on The Doctor.

This is reversible. Especially if the Doctor gave her enough
regeneration energy for another full regeneration. As we know,
regeneration energy is now a bigger Deus ex Machina than the sonic
screwdriver! Alex Kingston is ageing quickly before our very eyes and
so I expect River Song to merge with Doctor-Donna to make a new River
Song, who looks exactly like her mother. The details are unimportant
(like everyone else I am crap at Who fan-fiction) but I am sure River
will come back from the Library regenerated.

Very few River Song appearances will occur.
