Yeah.. every day this newsgroup has less and less Dr.Who discussion
and instead more spam and idiotic fighting and insults. It is sad,
really. It seems worse when there are no new Dr.Who episodes coming
out.

There are still some old episodes being played on some of the obscure
channels, and they remind me just how truly awful the new shows really are.

Agree entirely. After half an hour you'll soon realise who the "twat" is
that is intent on killing this group. If you killfile him and those who play
with him, the group comes a bit more manageable (but not much)

Snarky (AKA "The Wolfman") is a troll from another group that has claimed to
be a McCoy fan in the past. He also had a habit of crossposting garbage from
his other groups onto this one.

What in the *HELL* is the point in posting a message header that

Maybe you misinterpreted what I was asking (or I phrased it poorly -
entirely possible) or I misunderstood your answer.

As I read it, Yads was saying that he had not contributed to any of
the DW related threads here because of Snarky and I wondered how
Snarky was stopping him from doing so?

Yes, this is a small misunderstanding. I should have answered each post
individually but a lot of the people in this thread are in the killfile. One
poster mentioned "Or all the usenet kooks taking over?" Another person said
"It`s your fault they`re here." And another reply appeared to be blaming
Snarky for the usenet kooks being here. Having Snarky, Yads, and their
friends crosspost their garbage to this group can be a real pain. When the
group gets filled with that garbage, they basically hamper the efforts of
all Doctor Who fans at this group from taking part in Doctor Who related
discussions. It gets bothersome when you come here to talk about Doctor Who
and you see a bunch of junk from another group. Not everybody wants to go
through all that just to find something related about Doctor Who.

You want some Doctor Who discussion? Ok...

On two separate occasions (July 1966 and again in February 1968) there
were DW episodes where soldiers are defeated by robotic adversaries
armed with smoke guns in a warehouse near Covent Garden.

Do you think the re-use of this very specific trope, less than two
years after its first appearance, means that DW was running out of
ideas in the late sixties?

worth caring about, particularly in Web of Fear and Evil of the

I think the worrying sign was in the early 80's with the focus on
continuity (Arc of Infinity, Warriors of the Deep, Attack of the
Cybermen) and introspectiveness (Kinda, Twin Dilemma, Ghostlight) to
a
degree that was seriously detrimental to the character of the Doctor
as he became emotionally weak and pathetically prone to incompetence
and madness. It's when a show starts going introspective and starts
internalising itself (which happened to Red Dwarf and Buffy when they
started going downhill) that the series is not only running out of
ideas, but can't even sustain a reliable, tried and trusted repeated
idea.

The perpetrator of the HipCrime floods was a poster from Ukraine known
as "Bloxy's", "Nukleus", "Librarian" and various other aliases.
Hundreds of newsgroups were affected, not only RADW. Hundreds of other
newsgroups have been affected in the past. The target was Usenet as
whole, not this newsgroup specifically.

Happy that New Who new season will still be on the CBC come this
September but still ticked that Torchwood is on "Space"...could that
be because of the TWs 65 minute length discussed elsewhere here?

When I got into home theatre PCs a while back, and free HD...I burned
my bridges with Cogeco cable and only have Over-The-Air reception but
still get 16 digital channels and when you add the CDN analogue I get
32 channels total on a small omnidirectional antennae...so will
probably have to wait until TW season 2 DVDs are released. :-(

Was Yads behavior directly responsible for the hipcrime? Probably not. Was
his crossposting behavior leading to congestion at when those same groups
kept posting their garbage here? There is a good chance of that. Yads may
not be trying to harm this group, but the end result is that he attracts
trolls and others that wish to attack him because of his incoherent posts
flooding other groups. He does not need to draw the attention of trolls at
other groups. He needs to learn how to keep a low profile.

PS Why do fat chance and slim chance mean the same thing?

If Yads gave a damn about this group or his fellow Doctor Who fans that post
here, then he would not be trying to attract trolls from other groups.
Sadly, it is apparent that Yads does not give a shit.

Yeah, that's pretty much why I've been trying my damndest to get rid
of him, trying to chase him off forum. The group would just be so much
better without him.

It is these type of replies (including not snipping sigs - you should
know that you are supposed to do that after a dozen or more years using
Usenet) that give you your bad name. Cut them out and you cut out a
lot of the ire - and you might stop attracting quite as many 'stalkers'.
