I just watched "The Mark of the Rani" for the first time since I saw
it on TV years ago. I've seen "Time and the Rani" many times since I
had a recording of that one. One of the first things I noticed when
watching the older episode is that the Rani has no mole on her nose.
I wonder why they felt the need to add that to her character.

On a side note. I think the Rani is a good bit more attractive in
this one too, and not just because of the lack of a mole. In "Time
and the Rani" I always thought she had a nice body, but her face
wasn't much to look at. But in "Mark of the Rani" she is almost do-
able.

Too bad they haven't brought this character back in the new series.

I dunno. There was a lot of inconsistencies during the 80's, a lot of
stories ended up as a scizophrenic mess and for all the maker's
attention to continuity, they got it wrong so many times.

All I know is that John Nathan Turner's mind worked in strange ways,
that's why he was the worst producer ever.

She was impersonating Mel, and mistakenly believed Mel had a mole?
(There was a spot on the screen?)

I believe Pip and Jane Baker don't want anyone else using their
character. They did contribute another Rani story to the BBV audio
series: "The Rani Reaps the Whirlwind". I've never heard it, but it
can't have been worse than her previous comeback story.

They also put in a bit explaining how the Rani escaped from the growing
dinosaur.

The Master never needed such explanations.

Fanfic's a different matter, of course - you don't have to respect the
wishes of the characters' creators, there's no worry about screwing up
the canon for everyone else, and nobody's going to sue you (unless it
gets libellous or profitable).

Whereabouts are people going for their fanfic, anyway? I've seen some
entertaining stuff on alt.drwho.creative but it's mostly very weird and
injokey; and when I had a look at the LiveJournal "doctorwho" community,
I ran away and never looked back, before I'd even read any of it; the

The Rani's costume in "Time and the Rani" seemed like it might have
been inspired by the early-eighties New Romantics. In that case,
maybe the mole was a "beauty spot" to complete the New Romantic look?

She is a very handsome woman, although by no means a classical
beauty. But not ugly and definitely not *U*G*L*Y*.

So, why do you consider handsome women to be ugly?

Is it that they stir strange feelings in you, a bit similar to the
ones you get from handsome men? Is the reason that you're lashing out
at Ms. O'Mara to cover up your own confusion about being attracted to
handsome people of either sex?

Really? Please name at least one occasion when a camera lens did
crack on seeing her. Please give the date it happened, and details of
the type of camera and the type of lens involved.

Otherwise, you should apologise for lying about her like that.

No I have answered this question. What I gain from my efforts is a
sense of actually doing something about a pathological nuisance who
makes this newsgroup depressing by snowing under every thread and
sucking life out of the place. I achieve nothing really, but at least
I don't feel helpless while I do it. What I would like to gain from

Socrates taught his students that the pursuit of truth can only begin once
they start to question and analyze every belief that they ever held dear. If
a certain belief passes the tests of evidence, deduction, and logic, it
