well, maybe she will be OK... depends on what is written for her.
Oh for fucks sake.
It's fucking celebrity casting once again.
Are we going to be spared her family. Were they at the pantomime wedding and
reception?
The ideal companion....the one we all seem to prefer - is staring him in the
face. Sally Sparrow you fucking prat.

Baz, for once I agree with you 100%.

Fantastic !!!
Now all we need is for Tennant accidentally to degenerate into
Eccleston. The combination would be truly electrifying.
= IF
Sally Sparrow, who had the smarts and courage to succeed in standing
up to a terrifying alien race, with only minimal help from the
Doctor. She showed genuine character, likeability, a nice, realistic
curiousity about the unusual events occurring, she kept her cool while
still being amazed by it all - heck, take her and the boyfriend along
with him - why be locked to a single, female companion? Sparrow was
more of a 'real' character in one episode than Martha did all
season...
Seriously - Davies has done a lot for Who, and has brought it back in
a really successful way that a lot of people love, but I really want
him to step out of the way and let Moffat take over the reins, get
Cornell back in too. DW is basically headed in the right direction,
but RTD's little quirks - bad choices of tone (Aliens of London + Last
of the Time Lords) inappropriate 'modern' music, refusal to do stories
not involving humans, too many hokey/bad-science/implausible monster-
of-the-week episodes with no real story - Fear Her, Idiot's Lantern,
Lazarus... stunt casting and cameos by Anne Robinson, McFly, Trinny
Susannah, Minogue, one episode of Tate was bad enough, but now a whole
season???!!???
If he won't leave, please at least have him let go of the writing
reins and take a more hands-off approach... I will still watch next
season - Tennant is great, and Moffat/Cornell's and even the
occasional RTD episode have been excellent - but I fear Tate is
shaping up to be Bonnie Langford #2 (famous-ish actress, ending up
being derided by the public and almost universally despised by fandom)
Hurray! Donna is a much better character than Martha, she actually
had chemistry with the Doctor, actually held his attention, too. She
actually had some personality, and could carry a scene.
Yeah. /Maybe/.
It's a catastrophically bad decision.

Way to go, RTD, make a lead character so unappealing that fans will
leave in droves just from the announcement!
Please tell me you are joking, Cameron.
If true, this is terrible news.

Give me a strong personality over dull as a door nail Martha any day.
10 is shown to like Donna a lot more than Martha, anyway. 10
alternated from ignoring Martha to telling her she wasn't as good as
Rose to asking her to leave to ignoring her again.
Hell, 10 asks Donna to travel with him at the end of Runaway Bride
while it takes till series 3 episode 6 till he begrudgingly allows
Martha to stick around, then he starts ignoring her again. Other than
acting like the Doctor's servant , Martha contributes very little to
the plot.
Watch Runaway Bride again, and you'll see that the Doctor seems
interested in Donna, and hardly mopes about Rose when she's around.
Unlike, Martha, Donna's willing to stand up to the Doctor when he's
being a jerk, plus, she's funny!
Tate was fucking dreadful and (for me) the beginning of the show going
from bearable to unbearable. RTD has utterly lost any credibility he
might have been clinging on to this time last year.
It seems the degenerate is RTD here...
Looks like you'll be the only one watching next year then. Hopefully
they'll axe this mess, or even better, put someone with a clue in
charge of it.

Tate is about as funny as a cluster of burst hemorrhoids, and even
less attractive.
Oh dear, I found her character really irritating in TRB. Unless she`s toned
down considerably this will have a major effect on my enjoyment of next
series. If she plays the part like that on a weekly basis she`ll really piss
me off, it`ll be worse than Tegan.
I guess they`re looking for contrast...an empty headed idiot who doesn`t
even like the Doctor much as opposed to go-getter companions with amorous
intentions.
This is too dire for words!

Ooh yeah, that Larry Nightingale is DEAD sexy.
How could Sally ever leave him behind???

Well he role in "Runaway Bride" was a horrible, can't win part really.
There's that one scene where she looks beatific in love in the flashback and
cut to the turd she's saddled with being in love with. Sorry but that guy
was AWFUL. How do they cast some of these horrid actors?
The kicker is the two black guys who could act worth a shit they cast as
young and old Billy Shipton in "Blink" and killed the character off. I think
they should recast those guys as other characters in the future for sure.
Tate had that whole bride-zilla thing working totally against her. As
American viewers we don't have the baggage though that UK viewers who seem
to hate the actress have. I can understand it, but I didn't see any evidence
of bad acting on her part. She was one actress who seemed spot on in
casting.

Indeed, another reason why DW is getting oh so bloody tedious. Nothing
but Cockneys and celebreties.

At least Tegan wore a air stewardess uniform.

Eat some Alphabetti Spaghetti first, photograph the result, send it to RTD
as a script idea.

I'd love to see Eccleston back! Not bovvered about that ugly bird though.
It would be a nice Xmas present if the Xmas special is also a two or
more Doctor show. McGann and Eccleston joining Tennant would be fantastic.

Donna. OK then, she compares quite nicely with Tegan. Did Tegan drive all
the fans away? I don't think so...
Who can be gotte rid of in a single episode.
I'm sorry to see Martha go (albeit temporarily), but I was impressed
with Tate and I look forward to seeing more of her character. It will
be interesting to see both of them in some of the stories. The series
needs a few regular characters sharing the Doctor's adventures - and
at least RTD has kept up the interest in this department.
= IF
Maybe if she gets eaten by a grue or possibly falls into the amulet of plot
device, sorry heart of the tardis (or was it the eye of harmony?) during the
opening credits for the first episode and is never seen again.
To be fair, it *did* work for an episode. Not sure it will work for a whole
season though. ugh.
No it did not work. It stunk.
What a fucking liberty...
Which accent is? Some people were moaning about the Welsh accents in
Torchwood.
What about Durham, Northumberland, Dorset, Devon, or Norfolk?
I wouldn't even say she was a "strong" character. She was a loud
character. But just because you're saying dull things very loudly,
doesn't mean they won't be dull. I can't see how Donna has any
potential beyond the one story she's appeared in, unless she's been
doing some astonishing stuff in between.
To be fair, Tate did quite well with some scenes, mainly the ones
where she didn't have to talk very much, but overall I thought her
performance was weak (I actually thought her character was quite well-
scripted, Tate's portrayal was the problem). I've never been impressed
with her, I hate her show and I doubt she's ever heard of the word
subtlety. However, it's entirely possible that she'll improve, and
I'll give her a few stories before making my mind up.
It's an odd decision, to say the least, and I'm... concerned. Never
know though, maybe there's more about Tate than I've given her credit
for.
Norfolk enchants.
I`m a Devonian as well and got called a farmer on the phone by someone from
Hull once. Despite the fact I`ve never been on a farm in my life. Although
naturally she sounded like a flat cap wearing whippet racer to me.
lol!
Norfolk in chance...
I see. So that'll explain the ring - the present to the next production team
should they wish to bring back the Master. That'll also explain why RTD has
stated how much he's looking forward to watching future series of Dr Who
under a producer other than himself. While we're at it, RTD is a fan of Dr
Who. Why do you think a fan would want to kill it off? Ah. But then, looking
around at the attitude of some of this newsgroup, some people here seem to
be wanting Dr Who to fail ever since its return.
While we're at it, Dr Who is pulling in some of the highest audience figures
of the last 3 years. The decision to cancel the show does not lie with RTD.
And the powers-that-be at the BBC have quite firmly stated that they have no
intention of pulling Dr Who from the schedules.
I personally thought she was quite funny in the second series of Big
Train.
