Just for the sake of clarification, when I suggested pictures of
the parks and perhaps some of the rec.arts.disney "regulars,"
I certainly did not mean the stereotypical "Here's Buffy in front
of the castle." A good or unusual picture of the castle would
be good, as might a picture of Buffy making a fool of herself
with one of the characters if Buffy was a well-known participant
in rec.arts.disney.
Anyway, several people told me that several large, well-known,
for-profit services (such as Compu$erve) have images of Disney
characters and that if Disney minded, they would certainly have
noticed and done something about it by now. That reasoning makes
a lot of sense, so unless I get a cease-and-desist letter from
the Disney legal department character GIFs are fair game.
Yes, I do mean "are." Consider this an official announcement of
the unofficial Internet Disney Image Archive. There aren't any
images yet, but if Microsoft can announce software a year or more
before it ships I can damn well do this. This means that you can
also consider this a call for submissions. If you have or know
of Disney-related images that you think should be in the archive
please let me know, preferably by e-mail. Please do *not* send
me GIFs just yet. Tell me what you've got and we'll work it out.
The amount of disk space that I can devote to this is limited, so
I do not want to just duplicate existing sites. I'm really hoping
for the best examples of any particular subject (even if they are
available elsewhere) and new, unusual or unique images. The images
do *not* have to be in electronic form as long as you are willing
to send a copy to me through the mail. I have access to a nice
new scanner setup and will be happy to do a little bit of work with
it. Contact me via e-mail if you're interested. You can also e-mail
me if you have specific suggestions for things you'd like to see.
I can't guarantee anything, but I'll do what I can.
I think that should about cover it for now. I'll post again with
specific details when I have enough images to open the archive.
Now, as I promised in my original post on this subject, here are
the folks who responded. Thanks to all. If you send me e-mail
and you aren't listed, please try again.
