Proposal: Disney Picture Archive

I've got an idea, and I'd like to know what you think. Another of the
newsgroups that I read, rec.motorcycles, has a "rec.moto.photo" archive,
an ftp site which has a whole bunch of GIF and JPEG files of pictures
of motorcycles and pictures of many of the "regulars" on motorcycles.
It occurred to me that rec.arts.disney could probably use a similar
archive, and I'll even volunteer to host it. For copyright reasons
I would prefer not to carry GIFs of Disney characters, but scanned
photos from the parks and such shouldn't be any problem at all. And
who knows, maybe I could even be persuaded to put some of those
character GIFs up. After all, to the best of my knowledge neither
Disney nor any of their licensees offer electronic images. In addition
to hosting the archive, I have access to some pretty good photo and
image equipment, so I intend to take a bunch of pictures at Disneyland
and scan them in. And if you have some pictures that you think would
be of interest to the group, I'm willing to scan them if you're willing
to send them to me. I'll even mail them back if they're one-of-a-kind
photos for which you don't have the negatives, though obviously it is
safer and preferable to just send extra copies. I don't think anyone
trusts the post office completely. :-) In addition to pictures, the
archive could also serve as a repository for the FAQ files, as well as
any other information that might be of interest to the group.

So, that's my idea. What do you think? To help save network bandwidth,
please reply to me via e-mail rather than posting if you can, and I'll
summarize to the group. We can then discuss it "in public" if there
seems to be any reason to do so. I'm hoping that there will be a
decent response to this post, and I already get close to a hundred
messages on an average day, so please understand if I don't get back
to you personally if you answer. I'll note in the summary a list of
those who answered, so you can check there if you think your message
might not have made it. I may quote some of the messages I recieve in
the summary if appropriate, so please let me know if you would prefer
not to have your name attached to your words, or if you would prefer
not to be quoted at all.
