I figure about a third of my Disney trips are topped off by me
catching some kind of crud--recent contagions I've caught have
included an ear infection an pneumonia. I'm not usually prone to
catching stuff and I do seem to be able travel to places besides WDW
without getting deathly ill. Now I'm coughing out my lungs again
wondering what it is about Disney trips that gets to me. I'm inclined
to blame flying.

You probably picked it up when you made your Butterbeer field trip.

Same thing happens to us. Usually sinus infections. I too blame the
recirculated air on the planes.

My last three trips to the world have all had me becoming very, very
ill. One while there and having to have a house call to a resort
hotel. I have since learned that really starting the travel vitamins
and vitamin c combos they sell about a week prior to flying is a way
that seems to work for many people to avoid this...also, I have noted
that some folks actually have their doctor's write prescriptions for
antibiotics they can take starting about 4 days prior to their flight
with some level of success...the same with the trurn trip. What a
heckuva thing to have to do just to go on a vacation.

Prayers with you - get better fast!

Right now there are two evil groups of cooties circulating in the
southeast: one is respiratory and the other is GI. They have been
around for a couple of weeks and seem to like it here.

I usually get down with something after a WDW trip but I blame mine on
being off "farm schedule" and eating too many corn dogs.

Haven't heard any stories of folks getting sick from drinking butterbeer, or
had any problems myself.

If you were diabetic, its sugar content could kill you. Heck, even if
you're not diabetic, its sugar content could kill you.

So far, I'm pretty well alive. But the high sugar is not something I would
want to do frequently.

I blame this on an unexpected side effect of banning smoking on
planes. After the bans went into effect, I noticed I started getting
sick every time I flew too. I believe, once smoking was prohibited,
the airlines saw a way they could save money by cutting back on air
cleaners. It woudl be next to impossible for anyone to prove they
got ill on a plane due to the incubation times. Just one more example
of well intended legislation gone awry.

It was 22 years ago that smoking was banned on all flights under 6 hours
in length. That's a lot of time that's gone by, and a lot of other
changes that have happened, to pin it on that one thing.

If you're going to blame it on the airlines, blame it on non-refundable
airfares that force people fly sick rather than reschedule for when
they're better!

I'd be inclined to do the same. DDD went to Miami with 3 friends 10
days ago and they all came back hacking-started 2 days after the flight
down

I don't think it's the flight as much as just being around so many
people and touching things (railings, door handles, overhead bins, seat
tray tables, etc.) I am not by any means a germophobe, but I do wash my
hands every chance I get, especially before eating if I've been out in
public touching things (shopping, at the gas pump, etc.) I rarely get
sick. I hardly ever get GI infections, and I get a head cold about once
every three year. And I do a lot of traveling.

A couple of trips ago, I got a horrible case of bronchitis that took
at least 6 weeks to resolve.

I fly a fair amount and don't usually have problems. Perhaps it's the
pushing to see things and not getting enough rest.

That too. I have a nasty, unconscious habit of chewing my fingers.
After being on rides and touching railings, doors, etc., and then
sticking my fingers in my mouth and rubbing my eyes - blech! That
contributes to it. I have only been really sick once while actually
at the world to the point that I was in bed for 24 hours. It's
usually nice enough to wait till at least the last day or until I get
back home to hit me. I know some people swear by the Airborne tablets
though.

I hate it when bad health takes away from my Disney time.

I've been lucky over the last year. Maybe that's it. If you go

sick...

I still blame the other 100,000 guests and all their germs.

(Maybe that's it. Since most guests have their hands on their phone
in queues, rather than on the railings, less germs are being spread
around... Has a micro-biologist ever taken swabs of say, the
handle on King Arthur's Sword?)

I've been back for 2+ days and no Crud yet (knocking wood).
