Dear lovely people of the group (you know who you are)

Well here we go day 2 already, this thing is just flying along, I
have put the cast list in again for those of you who have just joined
us. So where have you been and what time do you call this, you’re
already a day late, never mind the excuses just sit down and we will
begin. Here we go with the cast list.

Myself (Stephen), totally enthused Disney nut and all round lover of
all things American apart from Grits and those Squash things, you
people eat some great stuff i.e.. Twinkies, meatloaf, hot-dogs with
cheese actually inside them (these things should have won a
innovations award) but then to balance it out you have to eat ground
dirt, Grits. Actually we have grit in England but its small stones
and you get it in the parts of your body that make contact with the
ground when you fall of bicycles, well ours would probably taste
better. Sorry I got side tracked. This was my 6th trip to the World
and I still love every minute I spend immersed in the Magic. I am 30
years old but it doesn’t show as I give big ooohs and aaahs as I sail
through the sky with Peter Pan.

My wife (Tracey), originally visited the world in 1988 with her
family for what was supposed to be her one and only trip but this was
her 7th, she loves Disney as much as me and was really pleased we
managed to squash (yuck)this trip in. What Tracey especially loved
about this trip was the fact that she got to argue the correct
pronunciation of different things with Mike who we will mention
later, is it Herbs with and H or Herbs with a silent H (erbs) or is
it Oregano (O-reg-e-no) or is it Oregano (Ora-gar-no). Well this
filled a large part of the trip and kept those two out of trouble.

Although this was the only people leaving from England we were also
meeting up with 2 friends from Atlanta who we met last year at an
RADP meeting and who we have been chatting and e-mailing since.

Mike (The Man from Atlanta) boy that reminds me of Bobby Ewing can’t
think why, where to start with Mike, he is the one who I have done
most of the ICQing with since we met last October and who helped us
to book our hotels in Orlando and in Atlanta. Originally from Maine
he knows what its like to come from a cold climate into the Sauna
that is the South, so he could put up with us going around looking
for anywhere with AC and us saying like "Boy its hotter than Satans
armpit today".

Kelly (The other Man from Atlanta), Bobby, bobby no still can’t get
it, Kelly was the really nice man who showed us round Atlanta for
Mike had to work, he also shared the driving with me as Mike doesn’t
drive and Tracey’s arthritis plays up after driving, that and as
mentioned earlier it was a huge car. Kelly in from Atlanta
originally so now I know how the civil war really happened.

Day 2 "Turning Japanese, I think I’m turning Japanese", 4/6/99 (6/4/99 US)

Well after a lovely nights sleep in my wonderful king-size bed I woke
to find it was a beautiful day outside and the whale I had hired from
Dollar was still there beached in its parking space right outside my
room. Why we needed a king-size bed I don’t know because we still
slept in our usual positions, Tracey wedged up against me, while I
try to balance on the last six inches of the bed. I often wonder if
she loves my side of the bed so much why don’t we just swap, I’ve
asked before but it is totally out of the question.

So its now 6.45am a totally insane hour to be getting up but Mike is
busying himself next door making us breakfast so we figure we had
better get up. It’s 7.30am and we dodge next door into Mike and
Kelly’s place for some breakfast. Mike has prepared a beautiful
breakfast and explains that when he was looking round the supermarket
the day before he had looked for things we would traditionally have
for breakfast, so we had scrambled eggs which we put ketchup on
(apparently a big no no), potatoes cooked up with sausage and English
muffins, the only problem is I can’t even remember in my whole life
seeing English muffins in the shops over here. We left for Epcot at
8.30am and arrived there at 8.45am, we were surprised to see that the
gates were already open, must have been early entry day today. The
first thing we wanted to do was TT, we have waited years for it to
open and couldn’t wait any longer, well we were wrong, we would have
to wait another 1hr 20mins before we could ride it. I think this
ride is excellent, it has all the elements of a really good Disney
ride Fun, Education and the ability to break down every 20 mins.
Isn’t it amazing that when deciding the position of their gift stores
they always manage to put them right at the exit, now if that isn’t a
stroke of luck I don’t know what is.

We had lunch reservations for Japan (hence the title) so we decided
to take a slow walk around world showcase. We were lucky enough to
catch one of the shows by the Krystal, Krystof, Krypton (not really
sure of the name) Acrobats, boy were they flexible, they flexed ways
that no normal person should flex, this is a really unique show, so
catch it if you are around, the woman who was part of the troop not
only looked like Barbie but could get her legs up round her neck like
barbie (shwing). We continued on our way to Japan only to be stopped
by another attraction, that attraction being magnets (get it,
attraction), Tracey has a magnet collection now numbering in the
hundreds so you can imagine her delight at seeing that they had
released flag magnets for all the countries around world showcase,
well if you can’t imagine that, guys imagine the Barbie and girls
did I mention the 2 hunks she was crawling all over, see now you
understand, she was delighted. So we started a new collection, on
our way to Japan.

We arrived at Japan just after noon but our ressies were not until
1pm so we decided to just pop next door and do American Adventure,
this show is nearly as good as the Hall of Presidents but not quite,
I think I was born in the wrong country because when they play
America at the end I always get a lump in my throat and no it wasn’t
my breakfast.

So that done it was now time to head back Japan for our lunch at the
one where you sit around and watch the chef work, a new experience
for me as I am normally the chef, he was very good and the meal was
excellent, I would highly recommend this place for a lunch. We had
steak and shrimp and although I don’t remember the price, it wasn’t
rip your eyeballs out expensive. It was amazing just to watch all
those whirring blades in action, oh did I mention we had a waste
disposal at MT (Magic Tree), it was so cool, we just don’t get them
at home, I just sat there for hours throwing things into it like
carrots, shrimps, ice cubes, batteries (these were noisy) and if I
get one to play with at home the next time I go someone else will
have to pick my nose for me. Anyway we finished our meal at Japan
and felt the need for something sweet, I suggested going to see
Barbie but I was out voted so we went to Denmark for Danish pastries
(oooh spooky).

We went back to the front of the park and decided to ride the rides
or at least some of them. First we headed towards Ellen’s Energy
Adventure, boy this ride improved a lot with just the addition of one
woman (wanted to slip in the fact that she was gay but couldn’t think
of a subtle or witty way to put it so I’ll not bother, oops), the
first time I went on it back in 1990 I wished one of the dinosaurs
would eat me just so I could get off this boring ride, but after the
addition Ellen, Bill Nye the science gay (Freudian slip perhaps) and
Jamie Lee shwing Curtis it gets a double thumbs up on my scale of
excellence. Next on our tour was Spaceship earth which tracks the
history of communication from the lowly beginnings with computers
right the way through to cave paintings, oops scratch that reverse it.

We phoned Tracey’s mom just to let her know we were having a great
time and that we were going to Gay Day tomorrow, her mother is quite
old (sorry Carole) so we had to explain what that meant, after that
there were a few dramatic minutes but after she was given CPR she
managed to get back to the phone and tell us to enjoy the rest of our holiday.

We left Epcot at 5pm and headed onto the best theme park in America,
PUBLIX, boy I love going grocery shopping in the states you just have
so much cool stuff, I could just wander round the shelves for hours
just trying to decided what to buy. Today however we were "On a
mission" we had to buy groceries enough to feed the 4 of us tomorrow,
it was like a scene out of the Crystal Maze, for the Americans among
you I will try to briefly sum up the Crystal Maze. It is a game show
compared by Richard O’Brien (yes the one who wrote Rocky Horror),
what you do is you find 5 people of below average intelligence and
set them simple tasks that they must do individually while the rest
of the team shout encouragement, the thickest one usually is chosen
as Captain and they decide who does what. So there we are we are in
Publix the clock is set and we must have decided whats for dinner
before reaching the checkout. We did rather well even if I do say so
myself we managed to hit all the major food groups, Pork (the meat
group). Potatoes with garlic (the Carbohydrate and bad breath group)
and Pork stuffing (the stodgy foodstuffs group), we also managed to
pick up Strawberries ( the red fruit group) with sponge nests and
squirty cream (the squirt directly into the mouth group). We headed
for the register just as Richard O’Brien counted down the last few
seconds 5..........4..........3.....paid and out of the shop before
we got locked in, oh yes in the show if you ran out of time you got
locked in the room.

Arrived back at the MT just in time to relax and veg in front of the
TV, boy its a hard life, it was Mikes turn once again to cook so we
stayed out of his way while he did his magic in the kitchen. Mike
had prepared another excellent meal so we tucked into Chicken in
breadcrumbs, creamed corm and macaroni cheese, he even managed a side
salad, a man of true culinary talent.

We chatted then headed back to Epcot for Illuminations, we arrived at
8.30pm and got ourselves set right in front of that pond thing (names
were never my strong point), Illuminations was just as good as I
remembered it. Lights, Lasers, Fireworks, Water and music all in
perfect unison and they still do my favourite bit, when they project
the globe onto the ball as you walk out, so cool. Have you ever seen
Illuminations summed up in so few lines, I think not.

Left Epcot about 9.25pm and thought it was to early to pack it in
yet, so we headed over to DQ (Dairy Queen) for some Ice Cream (the
frozen desserts group), for the Brits among you DQ is to Ice Cream
what McDonalds is to burgers, just without the pickles. They have a
large selection of frozen desserts, Tracey went for an Ice Cream
Sundae with a frozen chocolate coating, I personally went for the
Orio Blizzard, its like feeding Ice Cream and Orios into a waste
disposal and eating what comes out. Eventually arrived back at the
room at 10.35pm and we all said our goodnights and headed for our
respective beds, we veged momentarily and drank a few cans of pop
(soda) and headed for my lovely 6 inches of bed, I was soon in a
dreamland where beds where an extra foot wide so that I would have
space to move. ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz

Can't believe how well this is flowing along, wish I could bash out
this much stuff for my novel everyday, wait a minute I could publish
this and make millions, it might just work.

Dream on, anyway hope you enjoy reading our further adventures.

Lots of love sent out across the world

Stephen and Tracey

Oh, I'm laughing hysterically at these reports! It's still funny to see you
in raptures over a supermarket!! I'd shudder to think what I couldn't get
if I moved to Great Britain.

But, I would have to open a Dairy Queen franchise! I would make a killing
with it! I can't live without Dairy Queen in the summertime. <G>

ROFLMAO!

Absolutely hilarious. And BTW, I used to love ketchup on scrambled eggs. I
haven't had it for ages. I also loved your description of a Blizzard at DQ.

Actually you're not quite wrong. In the last few scenes, they are showing
some parents talking to their daughter over the internet. She's exploring a
cave and studying the cave paintings like the ones at the beginning. I wish
this were a little more obvious, but it's a really neat finale.

Hey, I'm just as amused as you are! Glad I was able to add a chuckle or
two, as well. <G>

I was thinking.........and yes, that could be a dangerous pastime, just as
LeFou said to Gaston. <G> Anyway, ahem.......ah yes. As I was reading
the posts from "The Brown Stuff", I couldn't help but imagine how cool it
would be to have this Brit travel with Kevin Stringer (more beer!) and his
family.

A combined effort for those two to make a trip report? Well, let's say that
I'd be inclined to wear Depends while reading. <G>

Stephen, I think your compatriot, Noel Coward, said it best: "Never
