Roy E. Disney, 1930-2009. Read the book "Disney War" for a detailed
picture of the major role he played in the company in the 80s, 90s,
and early 00s.

Very sad. Is there any Disney family still involved in any part of the
corporation?

He rescued the Disney Company twice.
Once in the late 1980s when leverage-buyout threatened to break up
and sell the company in pieces. Then he hired Eisner who put together
a strong creative tean and second Disney golden film age.

Eisner himself got stale and lost his creative team.
So Roy had to rescue Disney yet another time,
resulting in the Pixar merge.

How very sad ...

I had the chance to meet him once ... before the Philadelphia
stockholders' meeting. I was able to get in to the SAVE DISNEY meeting
he had the day before, and the reception after. I had a few moments to
talk with him and had his security person take a picture of us
together. Unfortunately it did not come out.

Roy E Disney is more responsible for the company being around today
than anyone else, including Michael Eisner. Without Roy there would
have been no Eisner/Wells. And then when Eisner lost the plot, he lead
the movement to move him out.

Without a doubt - it is the true end of Walt and his family's
stewardship of the company.

I just read about this...

It sad and it also seems that December is not a good month for Disney men.
Walt on December 15, 1966
Roy O. on December 20, 1971
Roy E. on December 16, 2009

Not a bad legacy for the kid Walt called his "idiot nephew." ;)

From the True-Life Adventure Films
to the new True-Life Series
To Earth Day Films
To saving hte Company twice....

God Bless you, Roy Jr. May you rest in eternal peace.

Sadly, it is the end of the Disney name legacy within the company.

And, that scares me...just a little.

Walt, Roy O., and Roy E.

These 3 were truly the heart and soul of what made Disney magical.

We KNEW 2009 was a crappy year.

All of us owe alot to this man for the courage and gumption he showed
in saving his family's legacy, maintaining integrity, and never
letting go of the dream for us. Walt, Roy O and Roy E Disney WERE
the American Dream, and no one did it better. Not only that, they
made a little animation company and an idea for a family theme park
icons of this country recognized all over the world.... heck, probably
the universe.
It saddens me to hear that this herald of Americana has passed....
especially in the times we're in now. It seems symbolic somehow.

R.I.P. fellas.

I agree. And I wonder what's happen to Diane Disney Miller's son, Walter
Elias Disney Miller. I thought he might be in the wings..

To this day, I still remember EXACTLY where I was when I heard that Walt
Disney had died. I was in my English class at Glendale College when
someone leaned in the door and announced that Walt had just died.

The only other time that I remember exactly where I was when I got the
news was when JFK was assassinated. I was in my high school P.E. class.

This is how I feel too. Poor Roy; he tried so hard to keep everything
associated with Disney what Walt had envisioned. Who will be the
keeper of the legacy now? I know his daughter and son-in-law were on
the board at one time. There are too many on the board who don't
"get" the heart of Disney and what it means to all of us. Very sad
and very scary, indeed. Thanks for the memories, Roy.

I am looking at my "Goodbye Michael ... Restore the Magic
saveDisney.com" bumper sticker.

He owned an incredible "downhill sled" (60 racing sailboat) in the
late 70's early 80's. LA to Ensenada was a combination race and
party. He did both very well.

Gonna miss him.
