We got a usual start. Out the door around 9am and off to the parks. It
as sunny out and we had high hopes for a lovely warm-ish day. Our son,
headed to ESPN club to watch is beloved Vikings play and win. We went to
DL and managed to ride the train, escapes the weasels on Roger Rabbit,
Tour the storybook land on a boat to observe the GIANT duck napping,
and Beat aliens (not very well either) on Buzz by about 10:30a. We
headed over to DCA then. And we went way to the back so Amy and I could
ride California Screaming. Andy went off to get FPs for Midway Mania.
BUT it's not a FP attraction. I guess we should have checked the park
map since that was a BIG surprise to us. The line was 30 minutes and we
waited in it for our chance to play. I love this attraction and I am the
lousiest at it. I thought I was doing terrific, hitting the big targets.
I looked over at Amy and well, she was ahead of me and Andy was in the
other side alone and he did twice what I did. Nuts. But it's a fun
attraction. After that it was time for lunch. I wanted a corn dog and
the corn dog hut is closed but they are serving them in It's a Bug's
Life Land. It was pretty good but not freshly made. I like those the
best. We headed over to Soarin but it was a 30 minute line and we
didn't feel like waiting so we went to Muppets. Being indoors was still
a good idea and I was getting foot and leg tired. BUT the cast members
had a building open next to Muppets and then were asking people to
coming into the Holiday Family Gathering to meet characters, get a
photos and a snack. It was lovely. We had a out photo taken with Mickey
and Minnie. Andy checked out Donald's Tree Lot but decided to NOT buy a
three there since Donald seems to have a problem with math. One tree was
marked down from 30 bucks to 50 bucks! We can't afford that sale!
Ross was finished watching the Vikings so he came over and we saw
Aladdin which is think is the greatest stage show that Disney does, FoLK
is the second in my eyes. I think they had downsized the number of
genies in the big production number but it was still fantstic. With our
package, we had coupons for special seating but we got there too late
for that but we were in the mezzanine left second row which is pretty
close to perfect to us. In the row before us, there was a little girl,
maybe 8, who was singing the songs, and just totally into the show.
When we got out of there we went and used out FPs for Tower of Terror.
What a great attraction! There was a young teen who asked to be let
out. She just could not do it. So the car had to be reset three times.
We all were pretty expert at unbuckling the lapstraps when we finally
took off. I like how this one is different from the one at DHS. Not
better or worse, just different.
We then headed to DL. We got ice cream and a ginger bread man (not to my
liking the gingerbread man. too soft and not enough snap), no candy
canes today either. We lucked out since the 3p parade was going by
and no one was in the shops and we could sit down in a relatively warm
place. Then Ross went to ride Buzz with his FP and we headed to Jack's
Nightmare before Christmas. NOPE!!! Not waiting in THAT line. We waited
for Ross to show up but Amy and I both got popcorn in the special
holiday Jack Skellington plastic bucket. Very nice. Then we wait again
for Ross. The Princess and the Frog show was starting so we watched that
for a bit and it was too cold for me to see the end of it. It was OK to
me. I think we were in the wrong spot for viewing. At that point, I was
done! We decided to shop and get on the road to San Diego. So we
didn't see the fireworks or Fantasmic either but we were all worn out.
Next time.
That's it! Had a great time. Too short a visit. Maybe next time at
the DVC property at the Grand Californian. Who knows. But we will try
for a different time of year. December, January and April don't work for
me. I shudder to think of coming here in the summer so maybe some fall
time would work.
We are now in Sand Diego for a couple days. Nothing terrible
interesting to do but the Wild Animal Park and a family dinner tonight
and then tomorrow more bird watching at the estuary and then Addison's
for dinner. Home on Wednesday where Christmas can begin in earnest.
Thanks for playing along and again a special thanks to Larry.

The key to coming in the summer - come on a day when most annual pass
holders are blocked out. A little poking around online will reveal which
days permit which passholders in the parks.
APs have become such a huge part of the Disneyland audience that some of the
best times to come to DLand are not what you might think, such as weekdays
in early December. Those days are a mess, with all the passholders coming to
soak up the Christmas experience. Saturdays and the summer are actually
pretty mellow much of the time, because most of the 800,000 AP holders hold
passes that block them out on those days.
Because DL sits in the middle of a gigantic metropolitan area, and the AP
has become just like a movie ticket to many locals, the dynamics are very
different than they are for WDW, where the passes are somewhat more
expensive, and a pretty high percentage are held by out of town guests who
plan to come two or three times in a year, rather than stop by every
weekend. (One year I counted - I used my DLand AP 194 days.)
So don't let fear of crazy crowds chase you off from summer - it's not as
bad as you might think.

We go to WDW all the time and DL is not a letdown at all to me. It's
just different and the first place when Walt's imagination came to be. I
am always amazed at how short the stores on Main Street are and now tiny
the castle seems but I was pretty amazed at how much we did in one day.
I just would have liked to have stopped to smell the roses in the
park. Maybe next time.

Please pardon our dust bowl, we're imagineering a new attention.

Ha! Darrell, I've got you beat! In 1995 I used my AP 365 days (and
became unemployed.) --(o=8> Wiz.

Disneyland (and DCA) is an adventure if your home park is WDW.
It's the same, yet different. A surreal experience of a surreal
experience.
Everyone should do it once. You (probably) won't be disappointed.
Of course, you'll walk around all the time saying "But the castle's
so small", and "There's a mountain where Cosmic Ray's should be..."
