No, not "Up", or that "Beauty/Beast" conversion they're working to
squeeze a few more theater bucks out of--

But fooling around with a pair of prismatic ChromaDepth glasses over the
weekend, that'd come with a set of Crayola 3-D Chalk,
http://www.amazon.com/Factory-Card-and-Party-Outlet/dp/B001UIXIX2/

...I'd discovered the company website explaining how the system used
color-based depth, putting "cool" blues in depth and "hot" reds in
front, and they recommended watching just about any 90's Disney 2-D
animated with the glasses:

Okay, I followed their recommendations, and watched "Mulan" and
"Pocahontas" with the glasses on, and a couple of "Little Mermaid"
scenes for good measure...

Mulan had some nice depth here and there, Pocahontas in her canoe looked
like it'd literally been MADE for 3-D gimmick shots, and even a nice
View-Master effect on Mermaid's "Kiss the Girl".

I had to pass this one along, while we're waiting for Dreamworks to get
on the stick about their own "Monsters vs. Aliens" Blu--
Yes, some of us are so desperate by now we'll try anything, but it's a
nice little filler in the meantime.

Someone posted a trick to rec.arts.animation some years back.
Apparently, popping a lens out of a pair of sunglasses will
approximate 3D effects on shows like Bots Master and Space Strikers.
Does that trick work here? Does it work with progressive displays
(component video connections)?

I never got a chance to try out the one-lens trick on my Bots Master
VCR timeshifts, so I can't confirm that works, either.

Terrence Briggs, inventing excuses for watching Bots Master again.
Peace to you...

That's a different effect. When the image presented to one eye is darker than
that presented to the other eye, then _motion_ produces a 3D effect. The
faster the side-to-side motion, the closer the object will appear. This trick
has been used on a number of TV shows, like The Simpsons. It's also fun to try
the glasses with shows that weren't intended to produce 3D effects.

There's Bots Master clips on YouTube. I tried one with both a pair of broken
sunglasses I had lying around (I'm constantly breaking them, although I tend
to buy the dollar store ones) and a pair of Spacial Vision 3D glasses I had
kept from the 3D episode of 3rd Rock From The Sun (I do have a copy of the
episode around, although I haven't watched it in a while.) I couldn't get
the Bots Master ones at the time because they were never made available in
Canada. And by the time the 3rD Rock episode came about, the show wasn't
airing. I couldn't even find the Chuck glasses in stores. (Although that
episode was not one of the best, nor did it really make much use of the 3D.)

The sunglasses worked partially, but not as well as the proper 3D glasses
(which I'll call the 3rD Rock glasses). With the sunglasses the "balance"
was off because only one eye was blocked with anything. So effectively each
eye was focused to a different distance. The 3rD Rock glasses gave a proper
effect. As I recall, the problem with that system is that after a few
minutes the mind adjusts and the 3D looses it's effect, so they couldn't do
a full show or movie using it.

I looked up the manufacturer, Rainbow Symphony and found their online store.

They have quite a range, but one pair I found particularly interesting. I
have got to get these glasses:

Just imagine the looks you'd get walking into a 3D movie with those on.

Just to add, these appear to be the glasses needed for Bots Master, but
you'll need to by 50 of them (about $20).
