Dance doesn't really work in very large venues. I saw a Cirque du
Soleil production in an arena usually used for hockey games, and it
was a disappointing experience: little tiny figures dwarfed by the
giant TV screens behind them.
On the other hand, if they could sell out a place that size, that
would be very cool.

Since you have already seen most of the routines that will be
performed on the SYTYCD tour, why not spend the money to support a
dance company you have never seen before and expand your horizons at
the same time. For example, Pilobolus has tour dates in Malibu and
Long Beach in early October, and they are one of the most athletic and
innovative dance groups in the world. The Cerritos Center for the
Performing Arts has three dance companies on their 2011 schedule. The
theater at Cal State Northridge has several groups on their upcoming
schedule ranging from the Dance Theater of Harlem to an Asian modern
dance group to Mexican folkloric dance. The Joffrey Ballet will be
coming to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza in March.
I know one goal of SYTYCD is to expose the world to the great work
that all of the under-appreciated, under-funded dance companies out
there are doing. And unfortunately, most dance companies fall into
that category, but nevertheless produce amazing work. Let's get out
there and show them that we care about supporting dance.

Update: A list of dancers for the tour has been released. Russell - the
winner from Season 6 - is included, but unfortunately no one else from S6 (I
was hoping to see more of them). Tickets for the Staples Center show go on
sale this morning. Cheers!
