Wikipedia says The Evening Sun ceased publication in 1995.

Or is there some bizarreness going on where The Sun still uses the
"Evening Sun" name in some portions of the paper in order to keep the
trademark alive?

The Sunday comics section uses the Evening Sun name.

Aha!

The Tampa Tribune's front page calls the paper "The Tampa Tribune and
The Tampa Times." The Tampa Times ceased separate publication in 1982,
but the Tribune doesn't want that trademark to fall into the hands of
the St. Petersburg Times across the bay.
