Choice your scenario-
1) Toni falls for jailbait Quill and breaks up with Brad; Momma
DeGroot rejoices.
2) Brad gets jealous, thinking that Toni is attracted to jailbait
Quill and breaks up with Toni. Momma DeGroot rejoices.
Having Toni actually wander when she's so obviously heavy into Brad,
especially with someone she would probably consider a "kid", would be
ridiculous. Having Brad *think* she's interested in Quill would be
plausible, but beyond cliche and a mammoth waste of ink and panels.
Maybe something happens while Quill is there that settles Nancy down.
Quill chokes and Toni Heimlich's him while everybody else loses it. Or
maybe Nancy overhears Quill hitting on Toni and Toni puts him in his
place in a way that shows she's got her head on right.
And yesterday's, 11/19, strip? Booyah! Frank - 1, Nancy - 0

=v= Brad's last inamorata, next door neighbor Diane, did have
a thing going with an legally underaged "kid" named Aaron Hill.
(Actually, I don't know whether Brad ever found out about that,
but it would be suitable grounds for angst.)

=v= It's fun to snark at Greg Evans on the basis of ludicrous
scenarios, but this particular waste of ink and panels doesn't
seem like his style.

ISTR he isn't a normal exchange student, but that his dad is over here
on a rotation with his employer, similar to how the Japanese companies
expect their engineers and middle-management to pull a tour of duty at
the plants they own in the states. So, no 'host' family. I suppose
Quill's parents won't be celebrating the holiday, since it is not their
custom.
But my memory could be faulty- it oft is of late.

While I was actually only snarking at the scenario itself, not
thinking of how likely they might be to occur, I could see him going
with the latter of the two more easily, though actually I don't think
he'll go with either one in reality.

I'm actually hoping Evans will go with option 2, then fake us out and
have Brad and Toni talk things out like adults, discover that Brad's
insecurity has no basis in reality and will continue to let their
relationship mature.
