sometime well before 30 years ago. I remember those bubble-tops
being an especially flimsy variety of vinyl, the kind that took
only a few outings to rip.

P.S.: To be fair to perennial plugger/contributor Reed Hoover
of Dallas, Texas, he may not get much rain around those parts.
The biggest torrential downpour within 100 miles took place
about 5 years ago, and it was extremely localized to a patch
of muddy topsoil outside Crawford (where George W. Bush slipped
and fell while mountain biking (and, reportedly, NOT whistling
showtunes) during what others experienced as a dry spell).
