Sounds like they are giving themselves plenty of wiggle room, and continuity
isn't exactly tight there anyway, but the Archie comics people at the
very least want to give the impression that Archie is to marry Veronica.
Since it will be five years in the future of the main storyline, it need
not have any impact there, but if he actually goes through with it
(the "proposal" seems to be a done deal), it will be hard to accept
him making time with Betty in the "present".

I've heard that the distribution receipts for this Very Special Issue
have openly stated that A) it's an "imaginary" story and B) Half of
them show him proposing to *Betty*.

Yeah, there's the thing; is there anyone who doesn't figure this
will be either an Imaginary Story, or an Archie-Of-Earth-Two story, or
some other excused thing where the Archie canon doesn't really commit
itself to anything in particular, other than that Archie will come out
of it a prematurely 65-year-old cranky owner of an overextended pizza
chain with a generic-problem teen stepson and a set of friends barely
able to identify reasons not to give in to the cancer for the duration
of the story?
