Gad, I'm such a bloody Anglophile that I didn't even NOTICE that.

And yes, I *have* eaten proper bangers & mash. I regularly visit at a
British-styled brewpub that does very proper British food--in fact,
upgraded with better ingredients, such as orange roughy for the fish &
chips, and top-quality fresh sausages for the bangers & mash.

No, they don't serve haggis ("Scottish scrapple," as I describe it to
those alien to the concept).

Not half as much as Toad in the Hole or Spotted Dick would have;
thanks for the memories Adrian Mole/Susan Townsend!

Doesn't upgrading the ingredients make it non-authentic? The topic of
English food reminds me of when CHOM-FM in Montreal sent a bunch of
people, plus top jock Terry DiMonte, over to England for the Wembly
Concert back in wheneveritwas, 1990? Maybe you have to realize that
there is no bad food anywhere in Montreal, no matter how small the
shop, to realize the culture shock these guys had eating in London
pubs. The standing joke on DiMonte's show for two weeks was "Do you
want lard with your lard?"

Which explains it to those who have lived in Eastern Pennsylvania ...

Scrapple is a popular breakfast item at least as far south as the
bottom of the Delmarva Peninsula ( http://www.applescrapple.com/ ) and
most of South Jersey. i seem to recall it is even commonly found in
and arond Baltimore.
