Or she colors it to her natural color to hide the gray.

Or she makes sure that there's nothing elsewhere to compare it to.

But more importantly, in the last panel you can see that his
badge is distinctly eight-pointed. As near as I can tell from
an exhaustive single-page Google search, police badges in the
United States never have eight points. So the secret that's
revealed is that Phil is actually a British Firefighter!

Historically, they did, though. Here are eight-pointed badges from
New York, Patterson, NJ, and New Haven CT.
