I believe this is the first indication that the Duncan
family ever had any kind of pet.

I've never had a cat, but I've bought plenty of kitty litter in my
time. This is blizzard-and-ice-storm country.

But I don't recall where Jeremy's family lives, and whether they have
to deal with winter weather.

I though you could only use kitty litter for a leaking Cougar (or
Jaguar).

Or a Lynx. Perhaps even a Bobcat.

Neither the Chron nor the SeattlePI archives go back that far, but
the 20 Jan 2004 strip has Jeremy writing his full name in the snow
along with some calligraphic squiggles and flourishes.

Hector: The flourish at the end was a nice touch.
Jeremy: Long live the 48 oz. fountain drink.

But other than that, I can't remember any other strips with snow.

I can't speak to that, but when I read this, I wondered why Connie is
using a pooper scoop to pick up the phone and why Jeremy won't touch
it. I've never done the litter thing (no cats and no snow), but I'm
pretty sure the bags don't come pre-pooped...

Ok, I'll give, especially as a resident of the Sunbelt: what does
kitty litter have to do with severe winter weather?

Hell, it took East Coast students in CSUN to explain to me just
what "storm windows" are for (I kept hearing about them in Crankshaft,
Hi & Lois, etc. as a "time to put them up" chore) . . .

Better traction and lighter than sand when you get stuck on
the ice in your car.

Also, if you get snowed in for a few days, you don't have
to foul the car before you're rescued.

I wondered about that. She said it was "a bag of old . . . "
and wondered if "old" was to be taken as "used." Kind of
clumsy. If he won't touch it now, might as well throw it
away. Going phoneless till he saves enough to replace it
would likely instill major Sense of Responsibility points.

Mike Beede

P.S., I'd probably replace it for my kids, after giving
them a few days of lecturing (or a few minutes, depending
on the kid).

Also good for front walk, if you don't want those big patches of dead
grass from using salt for that application.

Thankfully, nobody ever visits me, and mailbox is at curb, so I really
don't have to bother with it.

Or an Impala or a Puma, or even a Cheetah.

Someone in my Albuquerque neighborhood when I was a kid (early 1960s)
had a Cheetah. My grandmother was always pissed off that he raced up
and down our street when little kids were out playing, but of course
we little kids thought it was the coolest damned thing ever. It
sounded (at least when filtered through 40+ years of memory) like my
dad's GTO.

I was thinking the Puma was something else, but Google tells me it was
a Brazilian make that was bought out by VW.

Why would a member of the antelope family need cat litter?

Or a Sunbeam Tiger. Not to mention the Honda Civit.

unique political system - one designed by geniuses so
that it could be run by idiots. I was wrong.

Your Dad had a Goat, huh? Okay, that explains some about you, then. :^/
