Subject: Hero Alliance
Yay!  It's out at last!  This issue contains three stories:
Dressing For Success - interlude piece that looks like it was supposed to
be #18 (at least based on what I can recall from the next issue blurb from
#17).  One of the Lundelman Lab workers has thoughts about the "Misty" story,
and foreshadows some kind of revenge against the Alliance.  Probably the
weakest story in the issue.
Kelly Girl - a day in the life of Vic Torrence's #2, who actually runs the
spas while he's busy running the Alliance.  Somewhat throwaway appearance by
Star Girl and Star Beast, probably just to get them into some kind of print.
Crossing the Threshold - POV from Powerhaus's brother as he (unknowingly)
tries to drown his sorrows at a bar where Hover's bachelor party is being held.
Excellent story, psychological without being 'unreal'.  Art was iffy.
Overall, a good comic, well worth getting if you can find it.
Dave Van Domelen, thinks they're forgetting which was supposed to be
the obnoxious Gemini Plus twin, but not too sure on which it is anymore either

Okay, whose new costume shows more than head and maybe hands?  Not Kris, nor
Tawny nor Delphi nor Renee, nor the Gemini Plus, nor Hover (nor would we desire
that) nor Argent nor...gee, I ran out of Alliancers.  You may be confusing with
Star Girl or the early costume designs that were rejected.  Note also that the
only costumes with alot of skin showing that actually got off the drawing board
were Kris's, and she's bulletproof (her costumes need to be armored just so she
doesn't set Bob's hormones off after every fight).  All of the new HA costumes
actually cover enough body to be creditable defenses.  Okay, Tawny's looks lacy
in places, but I would bet they'll claim clear cloth over the lace if pressed.
And Star Girl?  Well, she looks to have a force field or something, so
even if she were offered a miracle cloth costume she'd likely turn it down.
Note: Kris and Bob do not have Miracle Cloth costumes.  They have
sturdier-than-spandex stuff, but are allergic to Miracle Cloth.
Dave Van Domelen, read thru #17 again last night and sighed wistfully at
Pearson's artwork back when he could get an inker that complemented him

Silly question--if they've come up with an indestructible material for
superhero costumes, why do most of the costumes show so much skin?
The fabric won't protect well if it isn't covering most of the body...
Oh, never mind--I forgot this was Innovation comics...

And I did notice that one of the women still will have a shreddable
costume--I wondered where the readers would come from if the clothes
stayed whole.

PS--Who in their right minds does aerobics in SPIKE HEELS??
Innovation, again...
You know, this book does have good female characters and could
probably draw a large audience of women if it weren't for all the
cheesecake...

Since Dave answered the costume parts, I'll take this one.  HA is one of
the few books that give a reason for the more or less non functional use of
a skin tight costume.  Chris's adrenal(?) glands are cross wired with her
sex drive glands-thingees (I'm showing my lack of biologoy knowledge, aren't I).
Her costume, um, stimulates, her thereby making her stronger.  Since when she's
exercising she has to exercise her powers (plus practice in high heels) it makes
since for her to wear them.

At least there usualy not the 7 inch heels that Ron Lim designed (but then that'
s what he used to put all his women in)

An explanation of Golden Girl's reasons follow.

Yes, but this wasn't Chris in this scene--it was the assistant
director of Vic's health clubs.
BTW, how far do _you_ bend over to unlock the door?

As I said before, I like the stories, but the cheesecake is a bit much.

Well, another "defense" is that the heels are only shown when she's sitting
on the floor.  She could just be doing stretches in them.  Then she takes
them off when she stands up to do the real aerobics.  Yeah, it's pretty
lame, but this IS a comic, after all.  A better complaint is why Star Girl
is exercising in her costume complete with high-heeled boots.  Or why Kelly
would have her coffee and call her mom wearing her underwear and high heels.
Why ask why?  Just enjoy.

}BTW, how far do _you_ bend over to unlock the door?

Oh, not quite as much as I bend over when I'm getting the coffee out of the
bottom drawer of the filing cabinet.  What's your point? :-)

}As I said before, I like the stories, but the cheesecake is a bit much.

Well I like both.  I wanted to see a little more shots of Tawny in her
torn costume.  And more of the fashion show.  Vickie tries two really
boring outfits, Kris tries three (one of which we don't really get a
good look at), and then it's over.  It's too bad that Kris just went
back to her old costume; I really liked the yellow one (but they could
lose that shoulder thing).

There are plenty of serious books out there, and there are a few cheesecake
books, but Hero Alliance is the only one that does a really good job at
both.  I say keep it that way.

I can only think of one thing that would be good to do with a bunch
of SCA people, but I can't do it, because I don't have a flamethrower.

For the humoroulsy tedious:  I am mostly joking.
