[From the Marvelution promotional package put out by Marvel]
Some super heroes work in the light of day. Are revered by the general
public. Get endorsed by the government. Are embraced by their peers.
But then, there are others who work in the dark. The fringes of society.
The back alleyways and dirty streets. The swamps. As far away from the
prying eyes and the warm embrace of mankind as they can get.
These latter super heroes populate the new MARVEL EDGE line from Marvel.
Yes, they're super heroes of the Marvel Universe, but their methods are
questionable, and their public supporters few. Some are simply monsters
on the outside, never accepted for the humanity within.
With the creation of this new line, the Editors and I will be attempting
to create a cohesive backdrop for these characters. To do so, we have to
pinpoint what guys like DAREDEVIL, GHOST RIDER, THE PUNISHER, HULK and
DR. STRANGE have in common. These cornerstone characters of the new
MARVEL EDGE line all have a certain renegade quality that will always
force them toward the outskirts of polite society. Their methods are
tougher and their allies seedier.
I hope you'll join us in the future as plans for the new line unfold,
and all manner of craziness begins to happen. I warn you, the heroes you
knew will changing. Some may become villains, some may discover new
friends and allies, and still others will discover things about
themselves that they never knew - or wanted to know - before.
And along with this core, lots of satellite characters and books will be
cropping up to entice you. But the purpose of the MARVEL EDGE line is
for Marvel to have a chance to get a little more daring, which means new
characters, new creators, new genres, new formats. Projects such as
SKULL KILL KREW, FURY, TYPHOID MARY, and a lot of other tantalising
stuff will be along shortly to tempt you. So I deliver a warning to the
other groups within the new Marvel - watch your backs, folks, because
we're planning to be the coolest part of the company - the craziest room
in the House of Ideas!
Bobbie Chase
Editor in Chief, Marvel 2099/Marvel EDGE
[I'll try to refrain from commenting TOO much, except to note that Bobbie
Chase is no Karen Berger and if the reasons behind the firing of
Chichester are as we've heard, I don't have a lot of hope Edge will rise
anywhere above standard superhero fare and offer anything at all
"challenging"]
[Unfortunately, I don't expect I'll see many of them anyway, as I fully
expect Marvel to be only a memory by then...]
[I WOULD buy a Dr. Strange/Spectre crossover or even Dr. Strange/Sandman
crossover though (Sandman vs Nightmare!)]
[Speaking of which, Dr. Strange returns to his old look, as does
Daredevil. Guess I owe a certain writer a big "I told ya so!"]
[Marvel has taken to calling Pencillers "Artists" while still referring
to Inkers as Inkers... I know what I wanna be when I grow up!]
