I missed ordering this series when it was solicited then noticed each
issue has reprints of old Disney Gremlins strips by Walt Kelly. I'm
sure if they had mentioned this in solicitations, they would have sold
a few more copies to fans of classic comic art. Why put them in the
book if you aren't going to draw attention to it?

we get solicitations and spoilers three month in advance and are always
looking ahead to the next fix.

Actually ....... you're right. Thirty years ago comics did suck.
But thirty-two years ago we had Howard, Defenders and Omega by Gerber;
Killraven and Power Man by Don McGregor; E-Man by Cuti and Staton;
Engelhart on the Avengers and gearing up for genre defining runs on Batman
and JLA; Warren publishing at their creative peak; undergrounds like Star
Reach; Perez , Giffen and Russell making their mark on mainstream books ..
and we were totally oblivious to the fact that it was all going to turn to
shit within a year.

Thirty years ago was 1978. Let's think about what was out then. First
your 3 selections.
X-Men was marking time in 1978, between the initial part of the Phoenix
Saga (from the crash of shuttle in #100 to the repair of the m'Krann
Crystal in #108 (December 1977) and the other shoe dropping in 1979 (from
the Proteus Saga through JGDOTM). Probably the most significant issue was
right at the beginning of the year with the introduction of Weapon Alpha
(aka Guardian aka Vindicator). After that, you've got a bog-standard
Magneto bit, a Savage Land/Suaron story (the one that resulted in Savage
Land kids for Pyotr and Logan), and a trip to Japan. The following year
(1979) was a much stronger year with the introduction of Alpha Flight, the
Proteus Saga and Dark Phoenix.
Fantastic Four 1978 was issues 190 throuth 201. 190 is cover blurbed "All
New Album Issue", it's a retrospective. After that, the FF break up (that
trick never works), Diablo and the Red Ghost put in separate lackluster
appearances, and the 199 and 200 end up with a big Dr. Doom battle in honor
of the 200th issue. It was actually a couple more years before FF got good
again.
Legion of Superheroes wasn't published in 1978. You're probably thinking
of "Superboy and The Legion of Superheroes" :). Okay, the Eathwar stuff
was good. so you get points for this one.
Also in 1978, there was Jack Kirby's original run of Eternals for Marvel,
which I liked. The Avengers had the Korvac Saga running throughout the
year, which was cool. Someone else will have to address the DC side (Teen
Titans was between the original run and the Wolfman revamp).

I sooooooo wish that Martin Abrams would just give up on whatever
egotistical dream he has of reviving the toys without the Marvel
characters and have his AGE company sell the non-Japanese rights to
the Microman/Micronauts characters to some sort of joint venture
between Takara and Marvel. A hardcover reprint project of those first
12 issues would be not just great to have (Micronauts got me into
comics), but it would also be great to see Mantlo's estate get some
royalties from it to help pay for his care.

thirty-year-old failed toy line =PURELY= out of spite over the toy's
relatively massive comic-book-world success, thus further impoverishing

Apart from Earth War in the LSH, other DC events included Superman vs
Muhammed Ali, the conclusion to the Engelhart /Rodgers run in Detective,
the death of the Earth Two Batman in All-Star/Adventure, the expansion of
the Dollar Comic line, the first attempt to end the New Gods saga with
Darkseid's death, the debut of Firestorm, the death of Jonah Hex, the return
of BatMite (after 15 years), Power Girl's first solo series and an embryonic
Crisis that was shoe-horned into approx 30 pages of Showcase #100.

I really like those Hotwire Comix books. They remind me of some of the
alternative anthologies you'd find in the 80s such as Snake Eyes,
Prime Cuts and Weirdo. Lots of grungy urban decadance!
