I thought the first issue of The Courtyard was OK, but I was annoyed to
see that Avatar is being cagey about how long it's going to run. I
couldn't find anything to indicate that it was more than one issue, so
when I got to the end of issue one I was a little bit surprised. They
also did a good job of hiding the fact that Moore didn't script it (it's
based on one of his stories). Note to self: No more pre-ordering Avatar
comics.

mentioned. Sure, they're not promoting the fact... but it's Avatar,

It was solicited in Previews as by Moore and Burrows, with no mention
of Johnston scripting. I'm sure for longer PR stuff they gave him his
due, but for that short blurb they left him out. Wait, check that,
Avatar did list Johnston in their larger ad in Previews, but in the
main item listing he's not there.
Johnston is listed in the more recent Moore adaptation "Another
Suburban Romance" by Avatar in last month's Previews.

The first issue was good. It's a sort of Lovecraftian horror/suspense
story, in an alternate universe New York. It's still reminiscent of
Moore, as it's based on his prose story. And the scripter, Antony
Johnston, is a good writer himself FWIW. I'm looking forward to the
second half.

Not anymore...it's $2 a month now.
(Stupid friggin' slammer worm kept me from resubscribing at the $1 rate by

I only saw the short blurb. I'm not really too upset, because I enjoyed
it, but still it makes me wary of Avatar's solicitations.
Turns out that it was a 2-issue series. I think. I don't read Previews
regularly enough to know if there's a third issue scheduled, but the end
of #2 looked to be the end of the story.
