Am I the only one here questioning the choice of John Romita Jr. & Klaus
Janson as the art team for
"THOR"?
Now I'm not knocking the talent of these artists. I've followed each for
years.
And they are both incredibly fine at their craft.

But their work on "THOR" is doing nothing for me.
"THOR" demands visual excitement.
I feel that there is a visual dynamism(?) lacking from their work for this
type of character.
It's like Romita Jr. & Janson come off too "plain" for this book.

Anyone agree?
Or is it just me?

Oh...
So far I'm satisfied with Dan Jurgens' writing.
Though the Avengers' dialogue was corny

I love JrJr's pencils but Klauses ink makes me think I'm reading
Daredevil, not Thor. In fact the artwork *screams* Daredevil at me.

But at this point, that's my only real complaint about the book. I
still wish Stern got the writing job but Jurgens is doing an okay job
at the moment.

I love JRJR's art on Thor, but I think Jansen's inking ruins it. I'd like to
see Scott Hanna, who inks John on Peter Parker, ink Thor instead.
'Course, I'd also like a better scripter. (Jurgen's story is okay so far, but
the dialogue is lacking). But only 2 issues have been out so far, and the team
had damaged merchandise to deal with. So, I'm more than willing to give the
book and the creative team a while to "click".
I'm just not so sure other readers will be so forgiving....

I think the opposite. I don't thjink its the art that doesn't fit, but the
writing. I think we need a stronger writer to match the art. Say maybe
Rogfer Stern Dave Michilinie, Simonson. Everytime I read Jurgen's stuff, I
see his art, or Paul Ryan's art. I don't find his writing fits the dark
shadings and feel in Thor so far.

I totally disagree. I love the artwork for Thor. His Thor is just
POWERFUL. He looks like a god, especially when surrounded by humans. His
Hela was breathtaking as well. When they were in Hel, it felt like we were
looking at incredibly powerful beings in another world.

That the pencils so aptly distinguish between Asgard and Midgard is credit
to JRJR. The backgrounds seem so grand (even a ruined Asgard). JRJR, to
many anyway, is the only artist to really capture the grandeur of everything
since Walt Simonson.

Is -that- what it is? The way he's drawn I keep expecting Thor to start
pimp-smacking his opposition.

So, with writing I don't care for attached to artwork I don't think
fits, Thor is is a definite miss for me.

Well the art is appealing to me ... while Jurgens writing is the most
horrible thing that could be done to Thor. And the plot is worse than
the writings ... even if I am a big Thor fan I had thought about
dropping the title ... well, I hope Jurgens will get fired soon ...

I can remember when JRJR first started drawing for Marvel, and I've
just recently started reading modern Marvel again. My first impression
of JRJRs art, is that he has changed his style quite a lot. His
outlines are similar to his dads, but his shading reminds me of Gil
Kane. I really like both those artists, but I'm not sure if I like
JRJRs style (yet).

I didn't think his artwork suits Thor myself, tho' some panels did
look well presented. I guess I'm a little out of date with todays
artists, but as a Spidey fan, I know whose art I enjoy there. ;o]
