In my opinion Roy Thomas is by far the greatest Conan writer after Howard
himself ( even though all he writen was in comics ) and he is also the
only writer beside Howard wich contribued a significant element to the
saga : the character of Red Sonja . No other new writer had contribues
anything new of importence to the saga .
He is also the by any account the most prolific I think that he had writen
hundreds of conan stories .
And here I would like to ask does anyone know just how many "conan " stories
he had wroth ? and beside KIng Kull did he writen about other Howard
heroes such as Solomon Kane ?
Also I hear that in writing the Conan stories he also adapted the stories
of other writers beside Howard and even of other sword and sorcery heroes!
can anyone tell wich writers and stories he had used in such adaptions?
Thanks
Eli
I never remember anyone else writing Conan the Barbarian; I always
thought Mr. Thomas was the only writer (yes, that sounds stupid, one guy
writing 275 issues of a comic, but I'm not really caught up with Conan
info).
While I'm at it, could someone send me info/direct me to a site
concerning a list of the writers and artists of the Conan Marvel comic
books over the years? Thanks for whatever help you can provide!

Well, this would require hours of research....but because tales were told
in comics, it takes several issues to arrive at a conclusion. Overall
there were not as many stories as first perceived. However, he wrote for
the first ten years (115 issues of Conan the Barbarian comic) and then
picked up the quill on and off, as well he did Conan the King, and The
Savage Sword of Conan mags on and off. I estimate at over 4000 pages of
art and such stories as well that he dealt with. His word count was
perhaps not that high, but still much of the tale was told with pictures.
I feel that you are partially right in stating that Mr. Thomas was the second
greatest writer, I say he is one of the best fans (underneath Mr. Glenn
Lord of course). As for the stories that were adapated, there were
several, not all of them Conan related. They usually told which ones they
were within the respective issues. I have every comic just about, but it
would require way too much research to truly answer this question. As
well I am still looking for COnan the Rogue Graphic Novel. Roy did the
most beyond anyone in promoting Conan to the general public and he is
still a great fan to this day by his own words.
