Peter Parker, was truly the type of son Norman Osborn wanted —

expectations. Unfortunately, Harry remained unaware of his father's
dark side as the Green Goblin until it was too late. Witnessing
Norman's apparent death in battle with Spider-Man, Harry was driven to
the brink of insanity. Assuming his late father's identity, he began a

POWERLESS #2 (OF 6)
Written by Matt Cherniss & Peter Johnson
Penciled by Michael Gaydos
Cover by Tony Harris
Peter Parker, Matt Murdock & Logan were fated to be heroes. If Peter
Parker wasn't bitten by a radioactive spider would he still do battle
with a madman named Norman Osborn? Matt Murdock, though blinded, had
no heightened senses. Nevertheless, he became a legal champion of the
poor in Hell's Kitchen, crossing paths with a powerful crime boss
named Wilson Fisk -- the Kingpin. Logan – still an enigmatic, amnesiac
drifter – is on the run from his bloody past, without mutant powers to
save him. By re-imagining Marvel's most popular characters without
superhuman powers, this series will strip these heroes to their core,
exploring what it means to be a hero in very human terms.

LOKI #1 & #2 (OF 4)
Written by Rob Rodi
Art & Cardstock Covers by Esad Ribic
There are two sides to every story. You've heard Thor's — now it's
time to hear Loki's. Odin's least favorite son rewrites Asgardian lore
from his perspective in this 4-issue limited series, featuring the
breathtaking painted artwork of Esad Ribic (WOLVERINE). In this story,
Loki's insatiable lust for power, his conflicted sentiments toward
Sif, his antipathy toward Balder, and the deep-seated feelings of
longing and resentment toward his older brother, Thor, and uncaring
father, Odin, will take on new meaning. And if that's not enough, just
stare at the lush painted art by Ribic — you won't be disappointed!

STARJAMMERS #1
Written by Samy Merchi
CORSAIR decides that the Starjammers should leave the Shi'ar empire and
set out to explore the universe, but this decision does not sit well with
some of the crew! Coming across a planet about to be eaten by the
legendary GALACTUS, the Starjammers are faced with a difficult choice:
will they try to save the non-spacefaring native race of the planet, and
if so, how do they decide who gets saved, and who gets left behind? Also,
HEPZIBAH is kidnapped, but why does no one notice? And how is the
enigmatic MOONDRAGON linked to the Starjammer? Join the crew of the
quick-paced book that will explore all the space opera corners of the
expansive Marvel Universe!
STARJAMMERS #2
Written by Samy Merchi
The decisions made in last issue lead to a crew member's departure from
the Starjammers! When the Starjammer's shunt drive breaks down, the ship
is trapped in a hostile solar system -- unless the crew makes a deal with
TERRAX THE TAMER and helps Galactus' brutal former herald gain rulership
of his planet. How will CORSAIR react to the romantic advances of
Hepzibah's sister, and how will CH'OD's debilitating injuries affect his
role in the Starjammers? Why isn't SIKORSKY telling the rest of the crew
a sinister secret that will change all of DEATHBIRD's future plans when
she finds out? Meanwhile, RAZA reflects upon his past and future with the
SKRULLIAN SKYMASTER, and LILANDRA disbands the Shi'ar superteam, the
IMPERIAL GUARD, leaving many of its members aimless. PLUS: The TECHNARCHY
is expanding its horizons!

Ok, I'm honestly not trying to bash it at all,
but am I the only one that sees a HUGE
similarity to "The Crossing" in everything
that's been leaked about this event so far?
Hidden sins from the A's past comes back
to bite them? Avenger thought dead
returns? Ironman suffering major emotional
problems... Everything you thought you
knew transformed... It just really rings a
familiar bell. Thankfully the creative team
looks a lot stronger, so that's a point in t's favor, and I'm definately
looking forward to
it, but I just find the similarity amusing.
Recomended Comic:
Thieves and Kings (I-Box) - Beautifully written fantasy
adventure. Wonderful characters, great dialogue,
expressive art. Original, epic, well-thought-out,
fun story. Humor, drama, originality, and all around
awesomeness.
Nope, not at all. The *idea* of the Crossing was a good one. It just
had the misfortune of being shaped by Howard Mackie and higher-ups who
didn't care because they were farming all the titles out to Lee and
Liefeld a year later.

I'm not so sure they were aware of that deal when the Crossing was being
planned. I remember at the time in WIZARD (font of accuracy) there was an
article about the Avengers editorial taking a retreat to plan the direction
of the books, and there was a whole different direction at work at the time
than what we eventually ended up with, with Heroes Reborn. I don't remember
much about it, but I think the direction was actually gonna feature two
Avengers-titled core books (AVENGERS and MIGHTY AVENGERS or something like
that), I think there were plans for an AVENGERS UNLIMITED and so on. There
was something totally different in the works at the time when the Crossing
was being executed. I think the Heroes Reborn deal crept up on editorial
all of a sudden (with relatively short warning) when Crossing was already
in the bag.
Woohoo! But this is an Avengers Disassembled tie-in? That's got to mess up
the storyline, right?

I can't believe they're redoing the original series issue by issue. Most of
them are sufficiently timeless to make it pointless to remake them, and the
rest, like this issue, are so horribly dated that it's never going to be
enjoyable however you change it to make it more modern. Still, it's funny to
note that the 21st-century version of Spidey's teacher sends fighting
students to the principal's office, rather than ordering them to go to the
gym after school and have a boxing match...
It was a ruse. They lied.

Eh. They could've padded this out some more, IMO. I'm waffling between
getting it or not; #136-7 are the only ones I don't have already, and it
might be cheaper getting them as single back issues. And since this isn't
one consistent arc, I might as well have it all as separate issues.
Still, it's a good intro book for people who don't have any of these
issues.

It's funny how different opinions can be. DX is the only Reload title I'm
*not* bothering with. Hasn't sounded like my cuppa tea at all.
> DAREDEVIL #62

I will be getting this because the solicitation explicitly mentions the
name of a known villain. It's gonna kick ass watching DD go toe-to-toe
with Jigsaw. :)

Yeah yeah, whatever. I've already heard Loki's origin story. I can
imagine it on my own with Loki's twisted slant coloring it.
Now, if this solicitation actually mentioned taking the character
*forward* in any way, I'd bother buying.

This does kind of sound like a twist on the Power Pack concept. I hope
we'll be able to get further information on whether this is PP or not
before the deadline of my Previews order, so I can decide whether or not
to pick it up. If there'll be no information before the deadline, I'll
just pass up on it.

Another of the oversized hardcover series? This thing will kick ass on so
many levels. It is a *DEFINITE* must-buy for anyone who doesn't own the
original issues. I'm seriously considering plunking down the cash even
though I have the originals. It's going to be even better if we get
further oversized HCs of the same series.

Wow. What's IH #140? The Psyklop story?
Is #97 the issue that ends with the Avengers teleported back to Earth by
the Supreme Intelligence? So basically this Essential will have all of
the Kree/Skrull War?

Wow. I don't have any of these issues, and it's a consecutive run, so
this one is a *definite* must-buy for me.
I gotta say, these solicitations contained a CRAPLOAD of TPBs. It's
awesome to see them doing so well.

I'm reasonably certain it's not PP. It mentions the kids helping a world
that insisted they were crazy (presumably after telling their story of
helping an alien), and of them being 'neighborhood kids' (rather than a
family). I suspect what we're getting here is a bunch of people without
powers who, as kids, convinced an alien they helped that they were heroes
and are summoned back into action under that assumption.
So yeah, it's sort of a twist on the concept, but I don't think it has
anything to do with them at all.
I probably won't end up buying it but I'll at least keep an eye out for
other press that comes out about it.

So I'm unclear. They never actually meant for Teen Tony to be an ongoing
direction? It was just, what... a practical joke? Insectoid Wasp and dead
Yellowjacket were the same?
This was a separate spotlight in Wizard that appeared at the same time
as the Crossing was coming out (towards the end, iirc). They were
talking about the upcoming direction they were going to take the
Avengers branch of titles in. One detail was that there would be two
Avengers books again. I think they gave rosters and details about the
solo books as well. None of it ever actually happened.
Teen Tony and Bug Wasp were sadly not a joke, but were someones idea
of a good story.

I'm just thinking of how Gaiman handled Thor in Sandman. OTOH, his Odin

I never really understood the idea of putting out the adaptation before

Yes, making it possibly the longest ESSENTIAL yet. But if they'd gone with the

packed it all in until they reached a good break point.

Wrote CODENAME: KNOCKOUT for Vertigo, took over ELEKTRA after Rucka
departed, and has probably been best received for his work on the
long-since cancelled THE CROSSOVERS under CrossGen's creator-owned
imprint. Of these, I've only read a couple of ELECTRA issues, and they
seemed okay - it's hard to judge, though, when the lead character is
written as such a cypher.

Actually, best received for his novels, of which "Whatever Happened to
Princess Paragon" is probably the most famous, and the only comics-related
one.
I believe all the "disassembled" creative teams except for Bendis and
Finch are short term. Kirkman on Captain America has already been
stated as such. Quesada also mentioned at a recent con that Thor fans
would feel much love for him later this year. Somehow I don't think
that'd be because of Oeming...

Rumor schmumor. ;-) Odd books get shuffled into crossovers all the

I know, and each of the first three issues has been solicited under a
different title, culminating in it just being a straight-up X-Men
title. So before reload there were four X-Men titles and now there
will be five.

Yes, it's the exact same situation as with Winnick, except there they
stretched out his stories with numerous fill-ins.
Let's hope that we see a lot more of the ESSENTIALs soon. I'm hoping to fill

I remember this era of Cap quite distinctly. I was thrilled that Kirby was
back at Marvel and back on Cap. But ultimately, I remember feeling let
down by this run. After a while, I got sick of Cap endless fighting weird
Kirby-esque monsters. It was okay at first, but I just got sick of it by the
time his run was over.
Still there was some very memorable moments from Kirby's
return to the title. Among them -
1) Cap losing his shield in battle and one awesome panel showing
his outrage about it falling into enemy hands.
2) I remember the Swine story as being pretty creepy. (I think that this
came after #200.) As a kid, I was kind of freaked by this guy killing
a couple of starving men by over-feeding them.
3) Who could forget "Captain America's Bicentennial Battles"?
Wow. Just talking about them has gotten me feeling a little
nostalgic. I'm going to have to re-read these issues.
