First of all, its all a matter of taste.
Secondly, you'll have to be more specific. The art on the titles I'm reading
is fine (Thor, Avengers, Mystique, Cap, Fantastic Four)
For the price that comics charge you would think that they could have decent
art in ALL the books not just some.
But you right. Art is all a matter of taste. Its just that it seems that art
is also just a taste for money that some of the hacks are putting out.

As far as the mini-series go. Baker's art is cartoony, and I for one am
looking forward to his Plasticman. But I don't think his art suited the
story on the Truth.

I didnt like the art on any of those either. i didnt buy them. No loss to
me.

Superstars like those guys are the exception. You seem to think they should
be the rule. Not everybody can hit like McGuire. Not everybody is as smart
as Einstein.

I'm not sure why they use the generic covers now. I dont think it helps sell
the books. i think its just lazy. They can stockpile the stuff and use it
when they want. DC doesnt do this.

There is exactly NO chance that there will ever be a time when you will
personally like the art in every comic that is being produced. If that were
the case then the people that like the art you hate would have NO comics
they would buy. You're expecting too much.
> But you right.
Yes I am.

There are always gonna be hacks. There are always gonna be artist you dont
like. Dont worry, be happy.

I take a quick flip through the books to check before I purchase them.
Especially if it is a title I am not familiar with.

I agree. I am not sure who the masses are that like the manga style. Until
recently I thought manga had died in the '60s with cartoons like "Speed
Racer". It must be like all other bad things including disco music and
platform shoes.....they just keep getting recycled as a new style every 25
years.
In the most part yes, and I hate a lot of the cartoony stuff myself.
I totaly agree with the guy who talks about the likes of Steranko and
Adams. There was some great artists around then, and I miss it. That's
not to say there aren't any good artists now, but I don't like some of
the styles personally.
IMHO of course. :)
Gary.

> For instance Captain Americas Truth mini-series.
Kyle Baker does some great work, but I think this wasn't the best match
for the story and theme.
> The Thing Mini-series.
I love Dean Haspiel's work. I think it wonderfully captures the action
and emotion needed for a story about a morose giant rock-man. :)

They found more lucrative fields to practice in.
Neal Adams, though -- isn't he responsible for the pseudo-realistic
over-muscled look?
> But you right. Art is all a matter of taste.
Exactly.

Hmm I never thought of Neal Adam's characters as over muscled... I think
they are more "realistic"/proportionate especially as relating to characters
drawn today...
I think Jim Lee's current Batman is more muscle-bound than any of Adam's
Batman drawings...
Cheers, SJD
They're more pseudo-realistic and over-muscled than what else was
appearing at the time.

Definitely.

Oh, sure, yes. In part, I was simply trying to point out that any artist
can be criticized, especially those who found a style or inspire a
movement.
But I was also trying to refer to the way that that style delineates
every single muscle, even when it may not be the most realistic
approach. Not "over" in terms of "too many", but "over" in terms of "too
often", sort of.

LOL. Gotta love a post with the phrase "all the Manga Crap."

In the X-Titles and Ultimate books.

There are only so many good artists out there. They've got to shuffle them
around and make sure that they've at least got enough good artists on books
that are making them money.
