10.05.00 -- According to Reuters, Marvel Enterprises Inc. said today
that its full-year 2000 results could fall below 1999 results.

Marvel blamed a slowdown in the toy market, with retailers selling off
excess inventory, for the possible decline in this year's results. The
delay in the release of the Spider-Man movie until 2002 was also
blamed for the bleak news, as the company expects to reap the benefits
of merchandising through a joint deal with Sony.

Marvel posted revenues of $320 million last year, up from the $232.1
million figure in 1998. It posted a net loss of $33.8 million in '99,
compared with a loss of $32.6 million in 1998.

Alan,

Not to be a nitpicker, but when I first read the Subject: line I
thought you were making reference to Marvel's sundry projects making
their financial picture look bleak (which, I guess, they are to some
extent). "Forecasts" would sound a little less foreboding to me.

Thanks,
Scott
