Is there still a Power Pack in the mainstream Marvel Universe? The
Power kids (or at least Julie Power) had started moving away from
home, last I noticed. All those Power Pack comic books now seem to
happen in the Marvel Kiddieverse.

Although I'm not much of a fan of the art on the book, I liked the last
story which had a satisfying conclusion this issue that smartly re-addressed
the issue of why Sue should bother staying with Reed.

I keep reminding people: genius Valeria pre-dates the Millar run. It
ain't going away.

I enjoyed the first arc from the new creative team...I wasn't sure I
liked where it was going but they pulled it off in the end...and
Millar's run mostly sucked.

it wouldn't surprise me if they just ignore Doom's new power...but,
yeah, one way or another he'll return to normal before long...and
everyone seems to be latching on to genius Val so that will probably
stick.

Power Pack, in normal coninuity, has grown up (which is odd since
Franklin is still a little kid)...Julie Power is the only one we've
seen recently and she is hanging with the Loners on the west
coast...and is a lesbian to boot...all the current Power Pack books
are from the "All Ages" line that isn't in continuity.

the whole point of this arc was Reed coming to realize he'd rather be
a husband and father than solve all the world's problems...which is
why he left "the council"...it will probably be revisisted again but I
doubt it will be a lasting plotline.

Personally, I like Eaglesham's art...I liked his stuff on JSA and I'm
liking him on FF now...I'll take it over Bryan Hitch's crap any day.

It seems that the Power kids have aged about 6 years since their beginning.
That would make Katie about 11 years old now. I really can't tell how old
Franklin is supposed to be. He is still being drawn like he is 7 years old
but he should be as old as Katie. I can't tell how old Valeria is supposed
to be, and when Franklin and Valeria are drawn together, he looks two years
older rather than the 5-7 years older that it seems he should be.

I believe it was said recently somewhere (maybe DR: FF) that Val was
only 2 years old...so, if Franklin is drawn as about 7, that isn't
such a stretch...the thing is Val is not drawn as a two year old...she
looks at least a few years older.

I guess that's the problem. Maybe they need an artist who can draw kids. A
2-3 year old is a lot smaller than a 7-10 year old. But the way Franklin
and Val talk to each other makes it seem like they are much closer in age
than they really are. And it's not that she sounds too old, but he sounds
too young. It's been hinted recently that Franklin's powers are coming
back. I have always had the thought that he was using his reality-warping
powers to keep himself as a kid since he knows that bad things happen when
he grows up. I would love for Katie to make a comment about it someday LOL.

Franklin Richards has been aged and de-aged so many times, you can't use
him to gauge anyone else's age. You can't even use him to gauge his own
age.

Anyway, just look at the latest issue of X-Factor to get my point about
Franklin and Val. Not only do they look like twins, but she seems older
(and in some panels taller). Also, there is a scene where she mentions her
mother's name and is shown suspended in the air. Most likely they are using
the flight jackets they were wearing in the Scotland story, but if X-Factor
is your only exposure to them then you would think she had her mother's
powers. Franklin is also floating on the last page. Maybe it will be
mentioned in the next part of the story.

Perhaps...perhaps not...I think the point with that scene was to
demonstrate that these are not typical kids...they're something
else...and more than a little weird...and I thought it worked well
enough...that said, you're right about them appearing too close in age
but it's probably not going to change anytime soon.

Wow. This is almost exactly my take on Franklin. I posted something
like this here years ago. He's the exception that proves the rule
when it comes to passage of time in the Marvel Universe. Everyone
else has aged except him. They've hinted that the modern MU is over
fifteen years along now, which means Franklin should be much older.
It's interesting that Reed, with his intellect, never caught on to
this, almost as though he doesn't want to know. Maybe it's a guilt
thing over zapping Franklin (wayyyy back before issue 200), and he
just doesn't want to tackle that issue again.
My idea wasn't quite that Franklin didn't want to reach adulthood, but
more that he was happy as with the way things were. Sure, his parents
are gone a lot saving the world, but since he's not growing older,
he's not missing out on his childhood.
Ever since Valeria came along, Franklin has seemed different, almost
as though he's started to age again. That was also the point at which
he depowered himself. I'm guessing that eventually this issue will
come up, and it won't be Reed that makes the discovery, but Valeria.
Here's a different take. Instead of the already-done shocking twist
where we find out Franklin is keeping Valeria in existence (a la Wanda
and her twins), what about the reverse? Maybe Franklin is staying
young by blinking out when he's not being observed, kind of a "standby
mode" similar to electronics. How often has he been left in the care
of robots and the like, when no people have been around to watch him?
Now that he has a constant companion in Valeria, he can't go way.
He's sticking around more, and he's getting older.

she will notice that she is getting older but he isn't at the same rate.

You know, that makes me wish Agatha Harkness was still around. Seeing
Valeria interact with her would be interesting...especially since she has a
link to magic via Doom.

follow through, but the one thing I really miss about the comics when
I was younger is the letters page. If nothing else, it added to the
value of the book because it took a little longer to read than most of
the pages.

Marvel has been bringing the letters page back in certain titles
recently (Amazing Spiderman, for instance)...I wish DC would follow
suit because I would much rather have a letters page than that useless
DC Nation "column" every week.

It used to be that they had two pages of letters *and* a DC Universe
column that was more informative and interesting than DC Nation (well,
except for the time they turned it into a parody of the Bullpen
Bulletin). I haven't checked, but I strongly suspect the number of story
pages has remained constant, and the lettercol pages have been sold to
advertisers.
