Hey,

I've seen a few threads regarding a project I'm rumoured to be doing for
Vertigo and I thought I'd take a moment to reply and give the official
word on what's happening.

The book Barb and a few others referred to is most probably a revamp of
a comic I had published when I was a mere nineteen years old called The
Saviour. Alex Ross came up with some spiffing ideas for this series at
San Diego last year and we're planning to do the book as a twelve issue
maxi-series under the Astro City arrangement where Alex has some plot
input, designs the characters and paints the covers. We were talking to
my old muck-encrusted mate Stuart Moore about the possibility of doing
this book for Vertigo, but my wife's pretty rough pregnancy and the
arrival of our chubby, healthy baby threw my schedule into chaos and
it's only now that we're getting back to the project.

Interestingly, I'm also speaking to Vertigo's best-dressed editor Shelly
Roeberg about a one-shot I wanted to do which takes the piss out of the
industry in general. It's called Comics Babylon and could see me in a
Shawshank Redemption scenario by the end of next year if we're not
careful. Shelly's currently checking with the legal guys at DC to see if
such a book can be published. Hopefully, it can.

Most of the work I've been doing post-Swamp Thing has been for the DC
Universe and now our year long stint on The Flash has skidded to a stop
I'm going to get working on another big twelve issue thingy, this time a
"Watchmen For Villains" called The Secret Society Of Super-Villains. The
book starts in '38 and brings the DCU bad guys right up to date in an
uncompromising, weird, brutal series which charts a history we're all
very familiar with from the perspective of the bastards with the freeze
guns and death rays. Also doing a lot of Superman stuff, most notably
Superman: Red Son with the brilliant Dave Johnson and at least twelve
issues on the best Superman book of 'em all, Superman Adventures. Check
this out or face social rejection!

Outside comics, if such a place exists, I've been lucky enough to flog
my first two movies. Surprisingly, these owe more to Trainspotting than
Star Wars, but I'm excited at the prospect of a Coke habit and a trophy
wife by this time next year. I'm actually considering having my OWN tits
enhanced for San Diego next year.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Sounds groovy Mark, but how about picking up Shadowmen where you left
it? (Only get a new artist, huh?)

Gawd, another comics superstar sporting "man-breasts", it's disgusting,
it really is.

Warren, if you're suggesting the illegal use of prescription drugs, I'm
coming down there to make a citizens arrest, sunshine.

I'm afraid you'll have to come up rather than down to pick me up, as I'm a
good 30 miles north of you.

And i'm suggesting the illegal use of _non-prescription_ drugs.

SPOILER SPACE FOR QUESTION:

So was that ketamine we saw spider injecting into his eye in Transmet
#14??

Hmmmm you think he'd just let it evaporate and snort it like most
normal people do.

Also is Spider just a weird fuck and injecting into his eye for the
fun of it, or has his veins in his arms and legs collapsed on him??

Normal people. As in people who take ketamine. Did someone just reverse
reality's parameters there... Jeez you bunch of wierd fucks. The
wierdest thing was when it became a "club" drug, and you saw these

Never done it mate. And if I had I doubt I'd announce it on a public
forum :) Judging by friends who have done it though, I can't really see
the attraction.

My uncle was struck of the British Medical Assocation for abusing
prescription drugs, and I've a vague feeling that it was ketamine that
he was using. This was back in the early 80s as well mind...

Ooo! Ooo! Ooo! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!

I remember the original, and was bummed that it disappeared into
the void (I must confess that I'd forgotten that you were the
writer). That was one of the two really decent things that Trident
put out -- the other being Grant Morrison's "St. Swithin's Day".
Well, SAGA OF THE MAN-ELF was a fairly decent Jerry Cornelius
pastiche, now that I think of it.

I'm looking forward to the other projects you mention as well.

Sorry I won't be at San Diego to say hello.

You've had friends inject directly into their bloodstream. I
understand that's pretty dangerous.

well I do think ketamine has been in use, since at least the 60's as a
recreational drug. It's recently seen a surge of popularity in the
club/rave scene in east coast US cities.

Okay, good. I originally passed over the original ketamine reference
because I thought it was a British diaper rash treatment.

Let's try to maintain this level of decadence please, it is a Vertigo

Thanks, mate. I'm the first to admit I wrote a brilliant JC in Trial By

For the first 6 issues, a story arc, unless that's changed recently. I've not
heard any other artists confirmed, but Warren mentioned interest in several in
the "Hellblazer Artists Wish list" thread.
