Difference between Marvel and DC Superheroes

Did you ever notice that DC characters for the most part chose the path that lead them to become superheroes, while Marvel characters had it forced upon them almost by chance? they killed off Shazam!

I just got the Day of Vengeance (countdown to infinite crisis) trade from the library. This was the one dealing primarily with magic, and the start of Shadowpact.
