  I think the idea was to give an insight into their character by creating &lt;br&gt; this alien which plays on people&#39;s fears, and using that to show what &lt;br&gt; their anxieties are. The first problem with that is that it doesn&#39;t show &lt;br&gt; us the *positive* side of their characters (until right at the end, when &lt;br&gt; they break its control).
