I think the idea was to give an insight into their character by creating
this alien which plays on people's fears, and using that to show what
their anxieties are. The first problem with that is that it doesn't show
us the *positive* side of their characters (until right at the end, when
they break its control).

Yes, I admit it, I wanted one of my favorite characters to be
portrayed as something IN ADDITION TO "boy crazy" and "wildly
overemotional." And I know girls who go beyond those parameters; I
would expect one raised by Amazons to do so even more.

He's a lighter Batman that BATMAN BEGINS or THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, yet not
the campy 1960s BATMAN tv series, but rather more BATMAN: THE ANIMATED
SERIES.

Except when they give away the whole movie. It seems to be a law or
something, trailers/teasers either are composed of every good shot in the
movie or have almost nothing to do with it.

Eh. Too heavy on action, and a truly unpleasant music track. When I
think of the Spirit I think of wit and intelligence, not a Batman in a
necktie. However, to be fair, trailers are often very deceptive.
