Tom McCraw (LSH/L* co-plotter/colorist) and Jeff Moy (L* penciller) were
the guests on America Online's Legion Chats for Tuesday, February 9, 1999,
and Thursday, February 11, 1999. Legion of Super-Heroes Chat takes place
every Tuesday in the DC Comics Online area of AOL at 6:00 PM EST.
Legionnaires Chat is held every Thursday in the same area at 10:00 PM EST.
(Keyword: CHAT DC.) Regular guests include Tom McCraw, Jeff Moy, Ron Boyd
and Mike McAvennie.

DISCLAIMER: I can't guarantee the reliability of this report. Essentially,
the Legion chats involve about twenty-five fans shouting repeated questions
to the creators. The creators are sometimes unable to answer questions
thoroughly or clarify their responses. As a result, misinterpretations may
occur on my part.

SPOILERS: Information that spoils current or upcoming issues is found
toward the end of this report. There's no spoiler space to separate such
info from the more general comments.

SUBSCRIPTIONS: To subscribe to these chat reports, send an e-mail to
"majo...@mlists.com" with the message "subscribe lsh-chats". To
unsubscribe, send the message "unsubscribe lsh-chats" to the same address.

PLUGS: To subscribe to Lev Kalman's humorous LSH pics, send an e-mail to
"majo...@mlists.com" with the message "subscribe lev-pics". You'll get
his new cartoons sent to your e-mailbox.

Finally, for all your LSH online needs, check out the Legion of
Super-Resources at

A BIG THANKS: To James Schee for logging Tuesday's chat.

:=========================:

You can see L* art team Jeff and Cory's work in GEN 13 #38, out this month.
He pencilled 7 pages for a subplot involving Lynch, but they don't show
the title heroes. He also drew a gorilla for this story.

Dragonmage is supposed to be shorter than most of the Legionnaires.

In theory, Brainiac 5.1's force field could repel Charma's pheromones. Tom
said that light and sound are the only things that the belt can't keep out.

We haven't seen Gates much recently because he's been trying to avoid
Element Lad.

Tom thinks Kinetix won't stop searching for power, despite all the troubles
her power lust has caused her.

Tom is trying to convince L* co-plotter Roger Stern to work on an
underwater issue.

Jeff pointed out that L* #70's subtler references to the TV show and video
game POKEMON were the magnoball and the girl Kuniko's outfit. The look of
the battlefield, a mixture of the works of M.C. Escher and Jack Kirby, was
Roger Stern and Carmela Merlo's idea.

Cosmic Boy defeated Domain by powering up the field on himself to draw the
spheres in, and he also got extra power from brother Pol. Save for a few
seconds at most, time didn't pass outside Domain's realm while Cos and
others were inside.

Though Rokk was nearly assassinated by Cuspin's order, he won't go after
his ex-agent. Tom said that's because Rokk's mother will ask him not to,
and he'll have to go after the Elementals anyway. The Krinn family will
show up again in L* #71. However, don't expect Cuspin to get away so cleanly.

Jeff has slightly modified Apparition's costume. Soon you'll see her in a
cross between her first (postboot) costume, and the one that Lee Moder gave
her after she died and returned. She'll also go back to the wavy hair she
had before it went flat.

Tom said that we'll see Saturn Girl "from a different point of view" in L*
#75, which focuses on the the three founders.

XS returns in L* #76.

Tom said L* #77 will hopefully show Apparition "meeting someone who shares
her predicament," whatever that means.

Scott Kolins will design Kinetix's new costume, which debuts in LSH #119.
It'll still be green. Tom pointed out that Scott draws Zoe's hair rather
full, so it's hard to tell whether it's still floating or not.

So, I can take out Brainiac 5.x with something as simple (by 30th
Century standards) as a laser. For that matter, if the force field is
light permeable, is it vulnerable to the entire electromagnetic
spectrum? Probably a good thing there aren't any Green Lantern's hanging
around then.

Damn, I was *not* expecting this. I asked Tom the question about Charma and
the belt, cause it came up in an RPG I'm running, and figured who better to ask
than the creators?

On top of that, I was wondering about pre-crisis brainy, but figured there
wouldnt be much difference....

This shouldn't be too had to pull off. Just have the Legion visit the
planet Telles comes from. I know we've seen at least one memeber of
his race since the reboot so we know that world still exists.

Telles wouldn't have to join the Legion this issue, but it would be
nice for him to at least appear if hte Legion is going to be in the
neighborhood.

Seems like the best place to avoid Jan would be *in the book*, since
he's never there...

But if the spheres were non-magnetic, what difference would it make?

So it can keep out air, then? Jeez, I hope Brainy has selective
controls
on that thing...

<snicker> Let me guess: he thinks Jan's too preachy. :-)

Just keep her away from Dragonmage. Leave the two of them alone
together
and they'll probably wind up hunting up Darkseid.

Even assuming that this makes any sense, it should definitely have been
explained in the issue. Along with why focusing on Pol's field would
make flying easier than a flight ring would, and why Domain didn't just
switch dimensions when he got in trouble, and...

:::eagerly::: Oh boy, you mean they're finally going to acknowledge that
she's a self-righteous, high-handed dictator who's been blithely
manipulating the minds of everyone around her while refusing to admit
that she's doing anything wrong?

Oh, c'mon, I can dream...

Half-Bgztl? Half-Cargg? Deprived of character? Married to Jo? ;)

:-D Maybe Brainy doesn't need to breathe like a normal person? ;-D But then
*that* definitely would preclude Charma being able to 'zap' him, I believe,
force field or no.

LOL! But it's a step up, isn't it, when Jan's putting the words he speaks
together in coherant sentences? ;-D Nevermind that the *topic's* not always
that clear.... }->

Now *this* would be a comic! :-) Hmmm, I wonder if all magic-based users are
so *tempermenal*, a la, it's not just inborn ability that makes you do magic,
it's also that driving push to continually find new power sources? It'd
explain Mordru, who's at one extreme, and Zoe and Dragonmage, who are
(hopefully) at the other. Did Mordru, long, *long* ago, start out meaning to
do good?

:-D She's *Universo*, and I was *right* all along! It's not just *your* dream,
Carmen, trust me! ;-)

I'm fervently hoping that another person who's married to Jo will show, as it
will end all the mindless mushiness that I've been forced to endure from her.
;-D If it's the 'deprived of character' option, well, isn't that just her and
Jo on-panel together? }->

*Anything* is a step up from <wince, shudder> "Then let's imagine
silicon!"

Hmm, wouldn't the proper title be Univers*a*? :-) And does this mean
that Rond Vidar is her son? ;-) ;-)

I wouldn't want to be Jo when she found out! Especially if she let
Phase out of the closet for the occasion... ;->

Mmmm...not quite. I mean, I *know* they can be in the same panel
without devolving into mindless turtledoves, I've *seen* it--I just
haven't seen it recently. But it *is* possible, just like it's possible
for Jan to be alien and spiritual without being a space cadet, and for
Brainy and Laurel to grow and change without vertigo-inducing shifts of
personality, and for Garth to be upset with Imra without muttering
darkly about leading a mutiny against her, and--oops. Sorry. Didn't
mean to rant...

Dunno about the spheres, but got an answer about the flying part...
I'm thinking he used his flight ring to actually do the flying, just used Pol's
field as a beacon/radar type of guidance.
In such an Escheresque place where even the gravity direction changed depending
on where you were, he needed something stable and familiar to key in on before
moving through the air, so he didn't crash into something unexpectedly.
Just an idea.
