=====================

The cover to LEGIONNAIRES features some computer effects that
warp the background images. Patrick Martin colors the covers,
but Tom McCraw does offer coloring suggestions once in a while.

Mark Waid prefers the old Mon-El suit to the newer M'Onel
uniform. Mark understands the need for the new costume, but is
broken-hearted about losing the "real" suit. McCraw observed
that the suit was impossible for Valor to use in the 30th
century.

According to Mark, Peyer will be doing the lion's share of the
writing on IMPULSE #19. Martin Pasko is doing IMPULSE #18.
Brian Augustyn will be co-writing FLASH, but--"in theory"--
IMPULSE is still solo-written by Mark.

There are no plans for a third Legion series right now.

There will be a Legion mini-series, but no work has been done on
any. Peyer would like to do a Secret Origins mini-series first
with Ultra Boy's and Invisible Kid's origins. He also thought
Gates' origin would be a good story.

McCraw thinks Gates is 18 years old. Peyer believes that Gates'
"20" dialogue line in L* #37 was meant to reflect Gates'
pessimism.

There are no plans to produce flight rings right now.

Peyer answered "yes" when asked "plans for Ferro or not?"

Peyer isn't too keen to use Darkseid. He thinks the "Great
Darkness Saga" would be a hard act to follow.

Mark claims that he was never the Legion editor during the early
days of v4. Instead, he was the Legion traffic manager. Giffen
was the real power.

Mark and Peyer jumped to Lee Moder's defense as an artist. Peyer
described him as one of the 3 or 4 best pencillers that he'd
worked with. He opines that storytelling is a big part of Lee's
appeal along with design and command of drawing fundamentals.
Mark seconded the comments, describing Moder as a "FABULOUS
storyteller with VERY expressive characters." Mark also thinks
that Lee would be nuts to go online because there are so many
bashers.

Peyer declined to talk about Apparition.

Mark has had an H-Dial built for him.

McCraw joked that Tenzil Kem is remaining behind the counter
because he likes to cook. There are no plans to have him join
the Legion yet, but they still might do some stories with the
character.

Peyer indicated that there was a chance that Chuck Taine would
become Bouncing Boy.

Peyer redirected complaints that the male Legionnaires' all wear
their hair slicked back to the absent Jeff Moy.

McCraw points out that if the Martian Manhunter was alive in the
30th century, he'd be very, very old. Older than R.J. Brande, he
pointed out.

Mark jokingly asked Peyer to explain the Winema Wazzo sting
again. Peyer thanked him for bringing it up, and told fans that
the Winema scene makes sense if you read the comic 100 times, and
he wouldn't deny them the pleasure.

According to McCraw, Triad likes Superboy, M'Onel, and Chuck
Taine right now.

McCraw teased that Shrinking Violet might make a play for
Leviathan soon unless she sets her eyes on someone else first.
He indicated that we'll have to keep reading to find out who Vi
is attracted to.

Peyer has no Andromeda plans. He thinks Roger Stern may have
plans for the character.

McCraw indicated that readers would have to wait for L* #38 to
see what's wrong with Saturn Girl. Saturn Girl fans may have
something to worry about after that issue.

Peyer indicates that Computo will return. Brainiac 5's reason
for building Computo will become apparent before the year's end.
Peyer thinks gas pumps can be very dangerous. He indicated that
the postboot Computo would make you pay the attendant before
pumping.

Hear, hear! I have to jump in and say I really like Moder's art
(notwithstanding occasional glitches like Chu's melting face in LSH 80).
Moy's work has grown on me, but I still think it's a bit stiff, and the

I'll just be slipping into my asbestos jammies now....

serious)

this is not pleasing.

i hope that there is more than just a *chance*

3 boys for three lus? hmm, i'd like to see the lu-orange/chuck
relationship (that _is_ the lu who likes chuck, right?).

i think it's jan. there are clues and the two of them would match really
well.

Lyle, Jo and Gates are great ideas, and Tinya would be cool (I don't
think a Kid Quantum issue would sell very well...). My vote for Legionnaire
most in need of an origin story (after Imra is taken care of) is Violet.

Agreed, but *please* let it be Rebound (or Ricochet, or Incoming, or...).
If TPTB want us recommending this title to friends, we have to be able to
say the characters' names without embarrassment. (And about "Element
Lad...")

Probably true, sadly. I know I'm in the minority here, but as I've said
before, I actually _prefer_ Moder's art to Moy's.

Wow, something just occured to me-- Triad purple likes Superboy, Triad
Neutral like M'Onel, and Triad orange likes Chuck.

I'm sure someone has already thought of this, but bear with me, I'm on
medication. Since Superboy is gone and is never, never returning (this
is of course, wishful thinking); M'Onel and Zoe are destined for each
other (now this is a fact, at least to me :-P). . .

Maybe Chuck has a chance after all? Personally, I still think it would
be funny if Chuck became the 30th century, male version of Denise Powter
and spent every waking moment harrassing Tenzil about the number of
calories in a bgztlian blue.

Actually I guess I'm in the minority here as well, prefering as I do Moder
over Moy. Moy's work is fine, but seems a little to Manga influenced for
my tastes. And as the above stated, can appear to be still. I mean I do
like Moy's work very much, I just prefer Moder is all.

Moy is a very good artist, and I like him more and more each issue.
Moder, on the other hand, really turns me off. At times he is decent,
but his style just doesn't fit the Legion. Many times they don't look
like teenagers. The artwork is a very important part of a comic to
me, right now the most important part. I'm not sure right now that if
the two books had independent storylines, I would continue to buy LSH.
Moder's art bugs me that much.

Sidenote: in a lettercolumn awhile back, it was said that there would
be no triangle numbering for the Legion titles, and that the reason
would be made clear by midsummer. I know they went ahead and
numbered the titles, but has the reason for not doing this still in
the works?

Ah ha! Another Moder fan comes out of the closet. It's about time we
stand up and be counted and let any of TPTB who may be reading that Lee
has his fans here, too.

While I like both Moder's and Moy's artwork, Moder's artwork seems
more... dynamic. Moy's artwork is smoother, with less lines, and
that's a beautiful style. The lines and leanness of Moder's characters
evoke more of a sense of movement, of readiness. I'd be hard pressed
to choose a favorite between the two; I like both our Legion artists!

Well Rob, I just want to make a few things clear on my part.

I really like Moy's art; he is my favorite comic's artist right now, and
honestly, he is my favorite since I have been reading the Legion, which
says *a lot*

If we could clone Moy, I would be all for it, but. . .

I also like Lee Moder's work. Like Jeff Moy, it had to grow on me, but
also like Moy's, it didn't take too long to endear itself to me.

Don't be mistaken-- I will always complain about Moder's style when he
draws the characters way too thin, and of course I will always bitch
endlessly about the foreheads; but do not be mistaken, I would be upset if
Lee Moder left the title. He is a good Legion artist.

As it goes. . . I will reiterate the point that Jeff Moy is my favorite
comics artist out there; *but* Lee Moder is up there as well.
