Tom McCraw (LSH/L* co-plotter/colorist) Jason Armstrong (LSH penciller)
Jeff Moy (L* penciller) Ron Boyd (LSH inker) Mike McAvennie (LSH/L* editor)
were the guests on America Online's Legion of Super-Heroes Chat for
Tuesday, February 24, 1998. Legion of Super-Heroes Chat takes place every
Tuesday in the DC Comics Online area of AOL at 6:00 PM EST. Legionnaires
Chat is held every Thursday in the same area at 10:00 PM EST. (Keyword:
CHAT DC.) Regular guests include Tom McCraw, Jeff Moy, Jason Armstrong,
Ron Boyd and Mike McAvennie.

Thanks to T. Troy McNemar who originated the Legion Chat Reports; so much
of the format of these writeups was derived from his hard work.

DISCLAIMER: I can't guarantee the reliability of this report. Essentially,
the Legion chats involve about twenty-five fans shouting repeated questions
to the creators. The creators are sometimes unable to answer questions
thoroughly or clarify their responses. As a result, misinterpretations may
occur on my part.

SPOILERS: Information that spoils current or upcoming issues is found
toward the end of this report. There's no spoiler space to separate such
info from the more general comments.

SUBSCRIPTIONS: To subscribe to these chat reports, send an e-mail to

unsubscribe, send the message "unsubscribe lsh-chats" to the same address.

PLUGS: To subscribe to Lev Kalman's humorous LSH pics, send an e-mail to

new cartoon e-mailed to you about once every two weeks.

:=========================:

Gene Ha briefly attended the chat. He's not working on anything
Legion-related yet, but definitely wants to.

Jeff didn't think Ayla and Vi would have a lesbian relationship again.

There are no plans to reintroduce Tyroc or Kent Shakespeare. Mike thinks
that Tyroc was a bad character, while Kent was OK but unoriginal.

Tom didn't think Paradise Island and Thanagar still existed in the 30th
century.

The next Legion miniseries is called LEGION: SCIENCE POLICE. The creators
haven't determined who would star in a possible sequel to LEGENDS OF THE
LEGION.

Luornu will always care deeply for M'Onel, despite his wishes to the contrary.

We'll have to wait and see if there is a connection between the current
Starman (Jack Knight) and Star Boy, other than the name.

Jeff didn't know who would be Imra's deputy leader.

Mike had nothing new to reveal about the Legion's upcoming guest appearance
on the SUPERMAN cartoon.

Nura appears in LSH #103.

Mike said they had plans for Dirk Morgna, "but not what you might think".

Jeff couldn't say if the preboot Legionnaires in L* #61 / LSH #105 would
realize they came "first" and are now sealed off from the regular timeline.
The story is very colorful, with its many characters, but Color Kid isn't
in it.

Jeff's pinup for the 3-D Gallery features about 25 Legionnaires, including
the ones who are quitting in L* #60. Jeff hadn't been sure he could fit
all of them in. The gallery comes out in about three months.

okay, this one goes out to the crowd: does *anyone* know if there's going to
be a tenzel/chuck miniseries? i heard about this about a year ago and that's
about it.

>Jeff didn't know who would be Imra's deputy leader.

... triad... triad... triad...

i've always liked triad, but after the last L* issue, i wanna see more of
her. (but not at the expense of jenni, of course)

i say make triad deputy for the short term and then make her leader in the
next election.

-plaid lad!-
at the very least, let's see what trijitsu is all about and have her work

If there is going to be one, I wonder if it were possible to have Lori Morning
in it, ([please dont scream yet!!!!) so that she may be allowed to be redeemed
as a character? I think it would be a good medium for it.

Either that or Jeff again didn't think that they would have
a lesbian relationship...

I really don't think Jeff Moy, as nice as he may be, is the authority on
whether or not Ayla and Vi were lesbians before Zero Hour. He's a
penciller, not a writer or editor. And IIRC, he only worked on one
Legionnaires issue pre-boot (and that was a fill-in or tryout).

Considering the nature of the chats, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if the
report didn't stem for an exchange similar to the following:

Fan: "Jeff: Are Ayla and Vi going to have a lesbian relationship again?"

Jeff: "I don't think so."

*I* wouldn't accept this quick statement in the middle of an AOL chat as
canonical confirmation that such a relationship was intended by the
creators at the time.

Nevertheless, although not canon, the creators during that period did
confirm at several different times to fans and in a DC column (IIRC a
precursor to the current "Watch this Space") that it was their intention
to portray Ayla and Vi as a lesbian couple.

Jeff's Ayla fantasies don't have anything to do with monogamous

Tyroc was not a bad character. There are no bad characters, only bad writers.

No, because the only way to have absolute canonical confirmation is to see
it somehow in print. Chats are not and have never been the source of
canonical information.

Is Paradise Island the same as Themiscyra (sp?) ? If so, seeing as John
Byrne, who's the _Wonder Woman_ writer now, says Paradise Island/Themiscyra
exists in _all_ times, wouldn't it still be around...? Unless something

Correct. However, if Thanagar's solar system was ever to be
destroyed, the whole galaxy would collapse, according to
Cosmic Idiocy.

Thanagar should also soon recover from its devastation at the
hands of the Hawkgod, as hawkcops were clearly seen in the
alternate future shown the JLA in JLA Secret Files, in which
it was revealed that not-Starro's victory would enable him
to take over various planets including Thanagar.

And we have seen Thanagar postboot, sort of. There was
a ship called Thanagar (with an officer named Hol) in

there can be such as thing as a "TMK ROT", since what the ROTs are R about
