Jason Armstrong (LSH penciller), Jeff Moy (L* penciller) and Mike McAvennie
(LSH/L* editor) were the guests on America Online's Legion of Super-Heroes
Chat for Tuesday, February 10, 1998. Legion of Super-Heroes Chat takes
place every Tuesday in the DC Comics Online area of AOL at 6:00 PM EST.
Legionnaires Chat is held every Thursday in the same area at 10:00 PM EST.
(Keyword: CHAT DC.) Regular guests include Tom McCraw, Jeff Moy, Jason
Armstrong, Ron Boyd and Mike McAvennie.

Thanks to T. Troy McNemar who originated the Legion Chat Reports; so much
of the format of these writeups was derived from his hard work.

DISCLAIMER: I can't guarantee the reliability of this report. Essentially,
the Legion chats involve about twenty-five fans shouting repeated questions
to the creators. The creators are sometimes unable to answer questions
thoroughly or clarify their responses. As a result, misinterpretations may
occur on my part.

SPOILERS: Information that spoils current or upcoming issues is found
toward the end of this report. There's no spoiler space to separate such
info from the more general comments.

SUBSCRIPTIONS: To subscribe to these chat reports, send an e-mail to

new cartoon e-mailed to you about once every two weeks.

:=========================:

Contrary to a previous report, Phil Moy inked pgs. 10-16 of L* #59.

Jeff has finished pencilling L* #62.

Jeff would like to see occasional shorter stories with fewer Legionnaires
(like LSH #102's Xanthu story).

Jason and Jeff received something so top secret, that they can't spill
anything yet.

Mike reminded the fans of the SCI FILES miniseries that starts in June,
featuring the Science Police.

Mike's editorial direction for the Legion includes greater accessibility by
introducing brand new story elements; i.e., concepts that were not part of
the preboot. This is not to slight the Legion's four decades of history,
but rather an attempt to keep the stories as fresh as possible.

There are no plans for Demon Damsel from KINGDOM COME.

Jeff is sure that Karate Kid has no super-powers, but is just an extremely
good martial artist. But, it's not impossible that there's some power that
enhances his fighting.

Jan's spaciness will be resolved, but it'll take a while before the
creators start on that.

Brainy might receive his own miniseries. Mike doesn't think there's
anything more to be said about Brainy's mother. Lee Moder is merely a
possibility for penciller on this series.

M'Onel won't die anytime soon.

Brainy isn't leaving the team.

L* #59 features Spark and Triad on the beach. Kinetix isn't there; she's
still with the anomaly.

Kid Quantum II is staying on for the time being.

Mike announced that the Legion will guest star on the SUPERMAN cartoon next
season. He wouldn't say much, other than he had sent some Legion books to
the S:TAS producers a couple years ago when they were looking for guest
stars, and that he might learn of some of the Legionnaires' voice actors in
a few weeks.

OK, while this is good to know, the fact that it was brought up leaves me
with a less than comfortable feeling.

He arranged a convenient "emergency" for Cory. Phil's a devious type.

>Jeff has finished pencilling L* #62.

I don't believe him. Have him send me photocopies of the pencils to prove
it.

Sorry, Jeff, we have more crowd scenes for you, though.

Who gave Jason and Jeff the UN scenarios on an Iraqi military strike?

All of them. Together again for the first time!

Does the mini focus on any particular SPs?

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

In fact, everyone rip those pages out of their copy of the book.

Someone explain to Jeff that "Super-Karate" *is* a super-power. Keep
explaining it until he actually believes it.

>Jan's spaciness will be resolved, but it'll take a while before the

It's certainly the *most* interesting thing going on in the Legion titles
right now. I'm glad to hear that they're prolonging it even more! Any
chance of "Jan, the Space Cadet" joining the SPs for their mini-series?

>Brainy might receive his own miniseries.

I've discussed this with Brainy, and he'd rather have an Andromeda
mini-series.

Is Mike talking about the same Brainy's mother that we're talking about?

But will he buy a burial plot on Shanghalla? Just in case . . . .

>Brainy isn't leaving the team.

He says that now, but wait until they shortsheet his bed.

Does not.

I wanna see 'em do Gates. He'd be a great cartoon character.

Yes, I'm certain he and his pencil hand would.

They can't spill anything? Has DC invented a super-sponge at last?

The truth is out there? With SPs F'x Muld-Der and Dayna Skulli?

I for one like this idea. If we only wanted the preboot, we'd just buy and/or
read back issues.

Who?

Let's ask Pat Morita.

Jan's spaciness will be resolved, but

Oh, just wonderful. One more issue of his spaciness and I might take drastic
actions. Or a Valium.

Now THIS is big news. The Legion Age of animation is upon us at last! I can't
wait to see who's going to be used and who will do the voices. Thus far, Dini
and friends have cast almost every voice to a tee.

Don't let it worry you. I'm sure that some fan just asked whether M'Onel
would die soon and one of the creators answered "no".

Keep in mind that these reports are condensed from chats. Some fan may
have said, "I love M'Onel. You aren't going to get rid of or kill him,
are you?" to which one of the Legion people answered, "No."

PVC figures to model the characters off of? Secret codes in Interlac?

This worries me a little. I hope this doesn't mean we'll be turning
away completely from the preboot nods.

>Brainy might receive his own miniseries. Mike doesn't think there's

This worries me a lot. There is lots to say about Brainy's mother.
Whether she is a villain or someone who has just given up on the rest
of the galaxy, there's plenty of story potential there.

This is really, really cool!

The above are the opinions of Randy Lander. Had they been
the biblical truth, your bushes would be on fire.

I've heard Gigi, Shvaughn and (maybe) that cadet with the big eyes from
Showcase a while back. I'm hoping for Captain Tro Yesq!
