I see two Gandalfs and church bell. And two half lions chasing
a bull rat each over the lake. (Rorschach tests seen by "Illogic")

Uh, I don't think Nautilus will be too impressed if we start shrouding
this thread in puns.

He tolerates it, but perhaps he'll be unlikely to shout: "Anchor, mes amis"

Kruk.
The strings of English longbows were made of hemp or linen thread, so
vegetable.

Stop making nautical puns. Derek and I are discussing a grave matter.

Discussing? I can barely hold my head above water in a battle of puns.
I'm at my wit's end.

Yes, but Bard had far better materials available, later - dragon gut! (I'm
not sure anyone ever made bowstrings from normal gut - unless perhaps some
of those tribes using poison arrows and really lightweight bows. Gut
stretches far too much to be useful in a bow that requires penetrating
power.)

> Your penultimate question was pretty risky.
Perhaps. But offhand I can think of one more bow in TH which is probably
made of wood and which is, though not mentioned explicitly, then at least
one shot made with it is: Thorin's bow that he shot the hart with by the
Enchanted Stream. The one he shot the messenger's shield with was made of
horn and so is largely of the animal kingdom.
