Surely you meant "sapient"? The jury's still out on plants' ability to
"sense" (depending on where exactly you draw the line), but it would be hard

Actually -- I could only remember two different flowers west of the
mountains that are mentioned in LotR: the water-lilies and the hemlocks
mentioned in Aragorn's song about L�thien. Lots of trees, herbs etc.
but quite few flowers.
