Barton, Humphrey. Westward Crossing. NY: Norton, 1950, stated 1st Ed.
HB in jacket, 209 pp. Barton and a mate sailed a 25-foot sloop from
England to New York in 1950; well written. 12362.1 VG/Good; book has a
small bookplate at top of front endpaper, also has a 1/4" bump at bottom
center of front board, else clean and solid, straight; jacket is clean,
chipped along top 1/8" of spine, 1/4" chips at two corners. $18

Blackwell, Meike. Ships in Early Irish History. Whilegate, County
Clare: Ballinakella Press, 1992. Pictorial hardboard, 6.5x8.7", 65 pp. A
straightforward book describing currans, boats and ships through all the
periods of Irish history, with many text illustrations. The last chapter is
on Irish families or cities with ships in their crests or seals and why.

author. Very Near Fine: Clean, straight, solid, unmarked; corners lighty

history of the U.S. Coast Guard. Filled with both dialogue and research.

Connolly, James B. Master Mariner: The Life and Voyages of Amasa Delano.
Doubleday Doran, 1943, stated 1st. Tan cloth with green stamping, 324 pp.
Starting out in 1789, the New Englander had a distinguished career
including consideral explorations in the South Pacific, early landing in
Japan, capture of slave ships, etc. 10146.1 This was very good, then I
pushed the rolling shelf over to the light bulb and charred the top corner
of the spine 1.5"x.25" ; it was clean and solid, corners very lightly
bumped, unmarked; now reduced by over half. $5

Cree, Dr. Edward H; Michael Levien, editor. Naval Surgeon/ The Voyages
of Dr. Edward H. Cree, RN, as related in his private journals, 1837-1856.
New York: Dutton, 1981, 1st. Cloth, 8x10", 275 pp. Cree served 10 years
in the Far East, including the First Opium War of 1839-1842; over half the
paintings illustrating these journals are of China. With 200 watercolors

Williams, Harold (ed). One Whaling Family. Boston: Houghton Mifflin,
1964, 1st. Cloth, 401 pp. Eliza Williams accompanied her husband on a
whaling voyage 1858-1861, had two children born at sea, and kept a diary.
Part II concerns the destruction of the whaling fleet in the arctic in
1871, Part III the voyage of the Florence 1873-1874, from a manuscript by
her son (140 pp). First printings of the 1861 diary and 1874 manuscript.
With photos and genealogical appendix, and chronology of whaling history.
