Bogatyrev, Petr. THE FUNCTIONS OF FOLK COSTUME. (Mouton, 1971).
Cloth, near fine. Perhaps a self-explanatory title. The founder
of structural ethnography, Bogatyrev was one of the most active
members of the Linguistic Circle of Prague, and co-founder of the
Moscow Linguistic Circle in 1915. This is his classic study in

good. With 32 pages of photos. The real and fascinating story of
the human oddities normally only seen in circus sideshows. Yet

Bieber, Margarete. LAOCOON: THE INFLUENCE OF THE GROUP SINCE ITS
DISCOVERY. (Wayne State, 1967). Cloth, good (dust jacket is
worn). A book dedicated to this one work of art, the Laocoon
sculpture. Beginning with its discovery in 1506 and through to
the eighteenth century, it was considered one of the greatest
works of art. But in the nineteenth century the sculpture was
censured and ridiculed. This book helps re-establish the

good. Luba is the niece of G.I. Gurdjieff, founder of the famous

London for thirty years catering to the artistic and literary

Nordau, Max. DEGENERATION. (D. Appleton, 1898). Cloth with gilt
lettering, good for its age, some yellowing throughout, some wear
around the cover edges, ancient pencil markings on some pages.
Nordau's now infamous fin-de-siecle rant against Western
civilization, particularly the "excesses" of the foppish
aestheticist movement (Wilde, et. al.) of the late 19th century,
has recently reappeared in paperback. This edition of "Hitler's
guide to the (degenerate) arts" becomes interesting again at our

Nordau's now infamous fin-de-siecle rant against Western
