this is sort of off-topic, but i thought there might be some opinions,
anyway: i'm looking for a good baby book/journal for the upcoming
addition to the family. in looking over ones i've seen in stores, i've
realised i don't like oversweet pastel cutesy things, or too many
blanks to fill in; i do like books that don't assume one father and
one mother per child, and have room to glue in photos and a lock of
hair and the like. we saw one pretty good one, with brightly colored
illustrations, fairly child-focussed, by an artist whose work i
recognised, but now i've forgotten who it was (a man, is all i can
recall). ones i've liked, from either seeing in a store or from
on-line searching, were _baby's first tattoo_, though it may be a
bit... *much* for the purpose, _beloved baby_, _baby's journal: a book
of firsts/includes growth chart and postcards_, and the metropolitan
museum of art's _baby's journal_.

any suggestions? happy users of certain journals? warnings? thoughts?

This might have been Todd Parr's _My Really Cool Baby Book_, which is
what I used for my baby. It fits your requirements quite well. My
main complaint about it is the glossy pages, which tend to smear ink.
The use of glossy papers in books meant to be written in quite baffles
me.

ooh! that's the one we saw! hm, maybe crayons would work - they're so
hard to get off book pages, after all...

thanks you so much!
