R.I.P. Lasse Sandberg, 84 (Swedish illustrator, "Little Anna" & "Little Spook" series by wife Inger)

He died on November 11th, in Karlstad, Sweden.

I barely remember one book of his and Inger's - the 1967 "Nicholas'
Favorite Pet."
"Nicholas is full of ideas about the best possible family pet. His
father and mother have somewhat different ideas. An elephant, says
Nicholas, could wash the car, blow-dry Mommy's hair, and replace the
school bus. Elephants belong in Africa, observes his father."

"If I had a hippopotamus," said Nicholas, "I'd soon learn to swim."
"That would be cheating," said his father. "You keep practicing with
your water wings."

(As I remember it, Nicholas only comes up with these wild ideas
because no one seems to listen when he says he wants a dog.)

As I might have guessed, he was nominated for the Hans Christian
Andersen Award for Illustration - in 1968, 1970, 1976, 1986, and 1988.
