Book on Castle by 10 year old Scottish girl?

My mother is looking for a children's book written by a 10 year old
Scottish girl about a castle in Scotland. That's all she can remember.
It's supposed to be very good at getting kids interested in reading.

I don't suppose she could be misremembering I CAPTURE THE CASTLE?

Which wasn't really written by a ten year old, but is supposed to have
gotten (some) kids to read. And was recently praised by Rowling (I
saw the blurb on a reissue).

There's a book called "A Childhood in Scotland" by a woman named Christian
Miller. She writes about her childhood in a castle that she lived in until
about the age of ten, during the 1920s.

The book opens, "When I was a little girl, the ghosts were more real to me than
the people..."

Maybe???

it got reissued after rowling's praise, but there's a new new edition,
with a movie tie-in cover. i got my librarian to buy the first latest
edition, and the library already had another dodie smith adult novel,
also quite good.

I Capture the Castle was reissued a few years ago, before the movie and before
Rowling said anything about it. I think that it has since been reissued again
as a movie tie-in.

In any case, it's a wonderful book.

Could this be The Treasure of Dubarry Castle by Lindsay Brown?

I have not read this book myself but I know that the author is Scottish and
was very young when she wrote it.

Saw the movie at the Seattle International Film Festival -- a bit more weepy
than the book (as I recall it), but very funny. The castle itself is quite
wonderful and horrible at the same time.

It's a wonderful film by the way, even better than my (teenage) memory of
the book.
