david, when i agree with curt, you have a problem.

if you're going to ignore him, do so. the most pathetic plonks
are the ones that need to be posted about more than once - even once is
too much. killfile silently if you mean it. all you're doing now is
INdirectly giving him the negative attention he craves instead of giving
it directly. the former is somehow more annoying.

This is where, however infrequently, but, yeah, once again,

Didn't he correct someone's spelling recently?
And hasn't anyone told him that there's just a
single space after a period? What year is this?

Don't take my word for it. Pick up a copy of
the Chicago Manual of Style or The Elements of
Typographic Style.

I wouldn't know about periods. I put two after a full stop.

Holy moley Curt, how low can a person sink on Usenet. Spelling flames are
bad enough, grammar flames are downright despicable, but typography flames?
Really, man.

That was 1986 and on a manual typewriter.

I only commented because David made a spelling
correction elsewhere in this ng. Lame for lame.

Two spaces after a period while using a computer
is equivalent to actually doing the repeat after
the shampoo and rinse.

Okay, but unnecessary.

Hmm, to be a pedant it is sometimes necessary on my hair, which is thick and
long. Hard to get clean the first time around, especially if I have styling
product buildup.

Check the MLA Handbook. The APA Guidebook. And visit a high school or
middle school and talk to the literature teachers. Two spaces after a
full stop. If the period is in a block of words a character (or perhaps
a quotation of a person) then there is only 1 space. But general text
requires two spaces after a period. The Chicago Style Manual, so far as
I am aware, is the only style that calls for a single space after a
period. Which makes sense since it was developed by and for reporters.
Space is money. Save a space on each sentence? For an entire newspaper
that's a good bit of space saved to add in more advertising. So while
you are technically correct in the sense that there is a style manual
that agrees with you, you must also consider that the Chicago style is
not an accepted style by common standards. In fact, when I went to UCF
the only two styles allowed (even in journalism classes) were the APA
and MLA. APA was only acceptable for Psychology courses.

The small entwined roses and the dragonfly on the chest were originally

Who gives a rat's fucking ass? I still use two spaces as that is what
the majority of publications still want to see when you are submitting
work.

And, really in the greater scheme of things what does it matter? Are
those extra spaces really harming anyone?

I'm wondering who a terrorist would vote for.

Bush has his heels dug in on Iraq. If I was a
terrorist home-based anywhere other than Iraq, I
guess I'd be lining up early to vote for Bush.

"Yeah. At least now I know what country to avoid.

Not sure that Kerry will do a better job, but I

the question of Supreme Court justices. The idea
