Hi!

Looking for a great, affordable tattoo? I'm Dr. Slick and
I do housecalls for tattoos. I did my apprenticeship for 5 years
under the great Pinky Yun, and I offer the best art at recession
prices. I will beat any shops quote by up to 50%!

- Sterile Procedures (Pelton and Crane AutoClave)
- Comfort and Privacy of your own home
- Custom Cover-ups

I'm local to San Jose and I will drive as far as SF and the
East bay, plus as far south as Santa Cruz.

You can see samples of my work below, and you can look at my
artwork:

http://www.drslick.org/

If you have EXACTLY what you want, and have gone to Kinko's
to shrink or enlarge it to the proper size, then you can call my cell
number if it is from 10AM to 11PM:

Cell Phone: (408) 807-5165
Email: Radi...@aol.com

Examples of my work:

God you would hope not, but I'm afraid that this is his example of
"Portraiture" Jack, Brian, and Tom have nothing to worry about. the dragon
is one of the worst cases of filling in between the lines I've ever seen,
the joker conceivably could be turned into something decent by someone else.
I'm not going to say anything about the praying hands being weird, I mean I
guess the "model" could have a right hand much smaller than the left hand.

Everywhere I see you post it's a flame, Pearson. I like the part about RR
not liking my language! LOL what a conformist noob.

Dr.Slick, how can you make housecalls AND charge 50% less? Seems fishy to
me.

Uh, by accepting 50 percent less? I mean he *could* do it for free,
right? How is this difficult to understand?

Fishy? That wouldn't be a flame, would it? It's at the very least a
distant cousin to a flame.

you have been to every single post I've made to bitch about something, and
the people you are trying to look good for aren't even doing that anymore.

Keep trying to charge the arguement until you can find something that you at
least have some chance at making a point on. There is bound to be something

If you actually read my words, i wrote "up to 50% off".

As in not usually 50% off, but that sometimes that's the group
discount at an ink-slinging party.

Hey, SF tattoo shops can charge $150-200/hour. So even 50% is
$75-100/hour.

Fine by me if i am there for 3-4 hours.

I do not have a bit of work. I am, like you, not a tattoo artist.

Of course I have been involved with the industry for 12 years and know and
have work done by many ARTISTS and know at least 1500 others. All of whom
would be embarrassed to brag about the stuff you showed a good examples of
your work. Please when you grow up and start looking for insurance PLEASE do
not bother to call me, the lady up in northern Ca. is more along your lines.

Generally I take the IDEA that I have to the ARTIST that I want to do it.
The ARTIST comes up with ideas based on where I want the tattoo. No trips to
kinko's are involved. I'd be willing to pay the extra 50% just to never set
foot in kinko's alone. Aside from getting a real tattoo.

The dragonfly is, i will admit, passable as decent.

But the octopus and the orchids look like shit without
the outline. No accounting for taste, i guess.

And the doggie-shit is nothing to brag about.

Nice language slope, and no you cannot draw either.

Yes I know slope is an insulting term, but then again so is Menstruating
Lesbian, or maybe it isn't assuming that the person addressed is in fact a
menstruating lesbone.

"Passable as decent" is something you have yet to achieve as far as
tattoos are concerned. Five years of apprenticeship?

Ooo, capital letters. You may be able to draw, but you sure can't
tattoo. You are a prime example for the fact that artistic ability
on conventional media does not automatically transfer to skin.
You're also lacking in the creativity department, in both tattoo
and verbal skills.

Since when does one have to be an artist to judge art? Do you have
to have a uterus to be a gynecologist? Do you have to be a bitch to
become a vet? No wait, scratch that last one.

No , see that's were we disagree, you may well tattoo til you die, but you
are not now and likely will never be in the future, an artist. Buying a
Spaulding and Rogers setup and disfiguring people does not make you a tattoo
artist. here are just a very few links to GOOD artists.

yeah, and you can wait in the long lines
and pay $50 just to secure an appointment, and you can have the other customers
stare at you and make you nervous because you aren't in the comfort and privacy
of your own home.

Also, you certainly will not get the same attention from a cranked out
artist who does a rush job because other people are waiting in line on the
couch. And hopefully your crack-head tat artist will not land in prison before
he finishes?

Actually, it won 2nd place for best ornamental at one of the

Sting and Berit would be devastated to hear about our good Dr.'s
judgment of their work.

Actually, I've seen some pretty bad tattoo work win prizes. You
only need enough fellow scratchers in the jury 8).

All this looking at my tattoo photos reminds me that I need to get
better pictures taken. But at least I updated the link to Sting's
page, for now.

That would be correct.

You see, I don't need to be a tattoo artist to think your work sucks
just like I don't need to severely disfigured in a fire to know I don't
want to be marred for the rest of my life. Not that I'd compare having
to wear what you deem as "artwork" for the rest of my life as being
marred.

Oh. Hm.

And don't even start with that "you're judging work that isn't healed"
crap. even after initial healing and a touch-up, your work will still
suck. There's only so much you can polish a turd. Maybe next time
you're swinging your icecream truck through the neighborhood you can get
"healed" photos and prove us all wrong.

You said elsewhere in the thread:

> Tons of people love my work, so FUCK YOU.

A history professor once noted that people in West Virginia living in
poverty didn't know they were poor until the government told them. I bet
I can find tons more people who think your work is shit. Perhaps I
shouldn't be so down on your work; if it weren't for people like you,
real tattoo artists couldn't make money on coverups and re-works.

> Why would i wanna be insured by an pompous maggot?

Mirror, much? Even if your work weren't an embarassment to real tattoo
artistry, you'd never get a dime from me based on your attitude. Matter
of fact, your work is so shoddy and your online presence so grating I'd

Is that supposed to be an insult? Transgendered people are less human? Or

Long lines? If I ever had to leave a deposit for an appointment I gladly
would considering the ARTIST'S work commands that kind of attention. I'm

I've avoided this whole thread mostly because I'm a very new tattoo
artist with very little ego about my tattooing...But I just have to
say...You really make it it hard not to feel great about my work. Heh.

Yes. I've been tattooing a little over 2 years. In my opinion....You
suck. Not to mention...HOUSECALLS??? You're just a travelling tattoo

Any person who has educated themselves on both professions in question
is able to judge the work of these professionals.
It's even easier with tattoos, as shaky lines, crappy shading and
general flatness are easy to spot.

Come on, you don't want to tell us that that portrait you posted the
link to is as identical to a photo as the living canvas will allow.
Should you have such delusions, back to www.tomrenshaw.com with you.

PICS??? Is that like someone who marries to stay in the country and takes
"candid" photos of their "family life" in case the immigration comes
knocking? Wait, I see. Your work isn't a good demonstration so you have pics
for people. "LOOK, I DID MEET PINKIE!!!"

I live in the bay area nitwit. I remember when the only tattoo shops near me
were either Pinkie's or Gold Coast in Salinas. Just because someone has a
shop for 30 years doing tattoos for ARTISTS to cover later, doesn't make him
"great". If I remember correctly his shop was near Just Leather. The local
biker hang out. And Pinkie's work looked just like the tattoos in a 70's
biker mag. Furthermore they look even worse after just a few years.

I love how absolutely certain people are in this NG!

It's a National Swing-gate, dumb-shit.

And i have a National Flyweight as well.

These are both great machines, i love them.

But actually, the machine does NOT make the artist.

I've actual seen some decent work done with guitar string,
although this is a bit rare, and the ink is never that dark.

I'll cover your face, bitch!

Yeah, housecalls. I know, new ideas are always questioned by the
mediocre, but people love it...they like the personal attention and
privacy of their own homes. It's also more convenient for them, and
actually a bit less for the artist, but oh well, i love it.

There are a million different opinions for what to do with a
tattoo.

Some people don't cover them, they have found that they heal
faster
without the 2 hour covering. Wounds do need air to heal.

And take your pick: A&D oinment, Neosporin, Aloe Vera (some
people like this), Vitamin E lotion,....etc.

I personally recommend Neosporin, although your body might like
something
better.

understand the way tattoos blur and spread over time, so that bolder

He's a good artist.

And i'll admit that i don't specialize in portrait work like he
does, but there is nothing on his site that i couldn't do. I just
don't get customers wanting realistic work that too much.

It's mainly that his reference photos are very good, the lighting
especially, but I'm certain he just traced them with his tracing
paper.

And realistic portrait tattoos, while very stunning for the
moment,
will not retain their beauty as well as a bolder tribal design, for
example. They will look like a blurry piece of shit 15 or more years
down the line.

Ok let's look at yours:

http://www.chaotropic.net/flowers.html

Ok, i understand people trying to be different, and not use an
outline, but it just doesn't match the lizard, sorry. If the lizard
was done in the same manner, maybe, but then you could see anything.

Color alone, except maybe dark purple, in not enough to define
the
outline very well. At least it's something you can fix: just put the
outline in the orchids and the octopus. They would match your other
tats better.

And the colors in your octopus are not well chosen.

But i'm sure your friends will never tell you this.

"Ummm...It's interesting..."

I don't think he did that arm. Apparently, he's one of those who
have been tattooing for a long time and are considered legends, but
are not on the current level of quality, which goes for a lot of
these 'legends' from today's point of view.

You only demonstrate that you have not understood how tattoos
actually work, and how to care for them properly. Your 'ability'
and knowledge, especially on aftercare, may have been current 30
years ago, but we know and see much better today.

And I am absolutely positive that I know more about skin anatomy,
histology and pathology than you could ever aspire to cram into
your head, seeing how it's all full of yourself already.

Are you getting treatment for these delusions of grandeur? Google
tells me you behave the same way all over usenet. Maybe the folks

In professional studios where they don't call them tats, don't put
neosporin on them and don't fuck them up.

Um... pay attention. The lizard is five years older than the rest.
It cannot and was not intended to be 'matched' with work I have had
done and planned.

You have not understood the concept. There is no outline to be
defined, nor is it needed. Do things around you need a big black
outline for you to "see anything"? Your concept of tattooing is
stuck back in the times when there was only what is called "old
school" today.

That's because your customers (the ones who love your work) are too
ignorant to know what is possible. Did you tell this guy

Actually zipper I have done some research on Pinky, and am surprised that do
not know him. In any event I've made some calls to people I respect, Not the
least of which is Lyle Tuttle, (i suppose you have heard of him) he speaks
very well of pinky. Also after tracking done some J-pegs of his work I'm
impressed, I suspect that if you did indeed apprentice under him it lasted
less than a week, I further suspect that if he were to find that you are
using him as a reference, he would track you down and kill you for bring
dis-honor on his good name.

well I hope that that is an aberrational piece. While I was told that he in
no uncertain terms was an old fart he did nice traditional work.
