Yes.

Heh.  There is a force field around the train.  But after
going to see the dubbed movie with some friends (the one
with the imitation John Wayne voice for Harlock), I had
to endure comments such as:  "Roll up them windows, pardner,
we're leavin' the atmosphere", and the immortal:  "Bartender,
a glass of milk, please"

Yeah, but the length of the day varies from planet to planet.
You forgot to add: and the train is always just about to leave
without them, but they manage arrive at the last possible moment.

Must be some kind of allegory, ne?

Maybe because it is unlike any of your typical macho guy (or gal)
with big gun/robot genre typical of SF anime?
