Yes, I noticed this in the San Francisco store. I saw it there as
long as a year ago (it's long gone now). I suspect that Tower probably
got a shipment from Japan, and it's possibly a small markup from the
wholesale price. When I saw it though, it was $18.95. Probably it's
going down since Tower thinks the CD is'nt "moving" very well.
Ryuuichi Sakamoto was best known for the 'Merry Christmas, Mr.
Lawrence' soundtrack, so they just picked up all of his other
releases, probably thinking they could "cash in" on his success.

No. Not at all.

The soundtrack from _Queen Millenia_ (sort of) is one of the regular
relases by Kitaro; you should be able to find it under "New Age" in either
Tower Records or Wherehouse.
I've got to fix my .sig files; all my good ones are at nprdc.navy.mil.

Oh, please! Aside from "Merry Christmas" and "The Last Emporer,"
Sakamoto is also fairly well known as one of the members of the Yellow
Magic Orchestra. His "Neo Geo" was a domestic release, and he
recently signed on with Virgin Records. He's one of the most well
known and respected musical artists in Japan, and certainly at least
somewhat known in this country (I attended a sold-out concert at
Berkeley). Tower Records in Boston (also I remember Mountain View,
and NY to a smaller extent) regularly carries records by Sakamoto, his
wife Yano Akiko (one of my favorites, but I don't think she's done
anime music), other YMO members (Hosono, Takahashi) and so forth.
Sakamoto in particular tends to sell out very quickly every time a new
shipment comes in.
There seems to be some confusion between the Honneamise soundtrack and
image album. The reason the latter is so "inexpensive" is that it's
only 16 minutes long. That's why I didn't buy it, although now that I
have the soundtrack I wish I had. That soundtrack is one of the best
I've heard, along with UY2, UY4, and Akira. It resembles the last
most closely in that it's inspired by traditional Japanese music, and
I think overall it's even better. Tower does get it in every now and
then, and I recommend trying to find it. His sountrack to "Koneko
Monogatari" (The Adventures of Chatran) is also excellent.

It's labeled under the name "Millenia". It has some pretty good new age
music and I would recommend it. (then again I like Kitaro's work so I'm
biased :-) )
