My newsfeed's been down for a few days so apologies if this is old news.

Here's a scoop for you all *I've already put it in my new FSTS column*!

At his Anime America panels the creator of Dirty Pair and Crusher Joe
(H. Takachiho(sp?)) announced that there would be a new series of six (6)
1/2-hour Dirty Pair OVAs coming out starting in November of this year.
The first 2 will be stand-alone stories and the last 4 will be a
connected story. If there is popularity there could be an extension of
the OVA series.

The OVA series will take place before the TV series and current OVA's
with the Pair being 17-years old. New character designs and mechanical
designs. Probably new voices too since the person who does Kei's voice's
husband has been transferred to Milan, Italy. Costuming was still being
finalized.

Other news:

- Dirty Pair Box Set (TV series and original OVA's still
on track for September 1993 release.

- 4th Japanese Dirty Pair novel, "The Dirty Pair's Great
Escape" recently hit the shelves.

- Mr. Takachiho is working on another story series based
in the 3WA universe based on 'Dragon Lee.' We saw
Dragon Lee in Dirty Pair OVA#5. First 2 novels should
be out real-soon-now.

Other, other news:

- Check out Cobra Mission from Megatech Software. First
in a series of anime-flavored interactive games for
the 18+ market. Mature graphics and more challenging
action is what they promise. I played Cobra Mission
and it is a little weak but definitely has an anime
flavor. Another game due out at the end of this month
is 'Steel and Lace'. Company deserves our support in
their efforts to bring us 'interactive anime.' These
are beefed up versions of popular Japanese games. I
can post more info if there is interest.

AIIEEEE! Not THEM, too! What's with this trend of making the
protagonists younger and younger every year? Whatever happened to
anime films starring adults, not high school kids?

Adults are boring. We've become adults, and if WE weren't boring
would we be wasting our time watching this animated stuff?

Besides, REAL LIFE people get older and older. I know I do. So
why should fantasy people do it that way?

And you shouldn't talk, Amazing Man-With-No-Life. Humming
the theme song of a kiddie show with a target IQ lower than room
temperature.

I think Tuxedo Kamen is really devastatingly cool... But I don't
think Usagi is pretty (though her multicolored outline as she transforms

I haven't seen that much SMURF anime, but it wasn't CUTE from

Fortunately, I enjoy her antics far more than I enjoy her cuteness...

Remember, Mary Bell is cute. C-ko is cute. Heck, even Sasami (from
Tenshi Muyou) is cute. There's more to a show than cuteness... :-)

Simple: anime is roughly following the same trend as North American
animation a few years ago. (You know, _Yo, Yogi!_, the teenage James Bond,
etc.) You should have seen it coming with all the SD and ultra-cute

BUT there won't be any "fear" that they may die, since we've seen their

It's frightening. Sailor Moon is quickly gaining ground in approaching
Patlabor as my all-time favourite series.

Ha. If Newtype July hadn't been the 100th anniversary issue, they would
have had Chibi-Usagi on the cover as well (everyone else did).

Hello, never mind the address, I live in Houston, and I just picked up my first
anime the other day.

I rented BGC #1 from Gametronix and I rather enjoyed it, even though the
consensus on this board seems to be that it's pretty unsophisticated. Hey, I'm
a white boy, but I'm learning...

First, can someone send me the FAQ? Please? It's expired here?

Second, where in Houston can I pick up Ranma on tape (subbed, of course)? I
didn't see any at Gametronix.

Finally, I haven't figured out what KOR is, but I'm sure it's in the FAQ.

thanks much,

Ranma will be released on tape by Viz (The people who brought us the
Ranma comics!) It will released dubbed first, with subtitled versions
coming out 6 months later. (At least, that's what they say...)

Yes it is, but I'll tell ya anyway!

KOR is a common abbreviation for Kimagure Orange Road.

If you're looking for something to read rather than watch, folks might want
to check out Iain M. Bank's nw book "Against A Dark Background."

This novel reads VERY MUCH like, say, an anime OAV series:

SF action/adventure story. Search for mysterious artifact. Smart, tough,
sexy, violent female protagonist. Rich, detailed background. Colorful
secondary characters. Dollops of mysticism.

Several chapters into it I noticed I was visualizing it as anime...
